Still don't see the advantage other than that Bubba can tell Billy Joe that he "drives a diesel". Diesel option is how much more $$$. Diesel costs how much more at the pump? Diesel service costs on a Tier IV engine costs how much during the LIFE of the vehicle?

This is 2013 and we are comparing Tier IV EPA diesels with DI gassers. It isn't the 1980's when diesel was cheap, gutless gas engines had carbs or throttle bodies and the mighty Cummins 6BT/ISB ruled.

+1
and "American-tuning" european diesels not designed for hauling trucks IMHO is the cheap way out, sorry Mizzou Colorado guys. Still waiting to see what happens with new Cummins 5.0L V8 in Nissan Frontier.

If they'll come out with a small pickup with a diesel that preforms as well as our VW Jetta TDI, I'll buy it. Drives like a V8 with economy of a 2 or 3 cylinder. Only vehicle I've driven over the WVa mountains that'll climb them at set cruise control speed as though they're not there, getting 45 mpg the whole trip (going east or north or south of here on interstate, it's 49 mpg on flatter land). Nearest gaoline model is the 2.0 liter turbo that only gets around 30 mpg. A 2.5 liter one we rented only got 26-27 mpg between here and Columbus over those mountains. Way better fuel economy and performance to warrant going with the TDI.

Comparing a Jetta to a mid-sized truck is silly at best.

No manual sucks. Hopefully they correct that.

But good on them for launching a small diesel. Hopefully they wont rape us on the upcharge.

Always thought those look pretty cool. We don't ever get the good stuff. :(

I wonder if they will follow though and offer the diesel, it is 2 years away.

My guess is no. There will be a change in EPA rules or advancements in gas motors to make it not such a good idea again.

The Jetta would make a nice pickup. Just remove the rear seats and trunk and throw a pickup bed on there, like Dodge did with their 024 and created the Rampage. Wife and I loved that pickup.
