How many Christmas parties are you attending this year?

As far as I am aware of, I am conscripted to having to endure three, and no, family gatherings DO NOT count as a real party. What I detest most of all about such parties is that everybody at the parties I am attending want to have that inane "Yankee Swap" gift exchange, something I find stupid and juvenile. To me, it would make much more sense to have everyone attending contribute for gifts to kids whose parents cannot afford them.

Or adopt a family and throw the party with them/for them.

Much more in the spirit of the season than mocking generosity through the Yankee swap. Why waste the money when it can be put to good use.

None for me, thanks! One of the benefits of being self-employed is not having to endure meetings and company parties.

For the last several years I only attend one, put on by great neighbors at their home. They call me when they see any problems on the farm and know the difference between a true problem and things that don't matter.

The food and conversation is great and the beer is cold (which I enjoy, even if they do drink Moose Head). Last year we took them a bottle of wine. If they started swapping gifts we would stop going.

I am on the planning committee for our Unit's "Holiday" party. The fact we have to call it a Holiday party instead of a Christmas party is what cheeses me off. Its a party with a decorated tree, and all these Christmas traditions, but we can't say Christmas party for some reason. I know this is kind of an old argument, but it still bothers me.

One, unofficial for work crews. That is fun - chance to visit in a no-pressure non-work setting and have a few belts. No gifting.

We contribute to Toys for Tots, Enabling Technology, and other charitable initiatives. I would not attend a party where gifting between well-off guests was required. That is taking things too far. I attended one once, and never will again. It was disgusting seeing insecure rich folks try to reassure each other through further ostentatious displays. :yuck: Pointless trying to convince them to be charitable.

One big ***** one now that I'm back in the Philippines. Great food, family and lots of tanduay rum and coke. Might need some sun screen too. 90 degrees every day. Fresh watermelon and other fresh fruits and vegies. Great to be back home for a few months.
