I'm looking for inexpensive, short travel, small bore hyd. cylinders. They are to operate the tailgate lock on my hyd. dump trailer. Must handle at least 2000# working pressure. I've tried through the net, some on EBay but not sure of source. Some look like pneumatic cylinders being sold as hydraulic. Thanks for any help.

I've purchased the small cylinders used on lawn mower deck lifts for such projects on eBay. For example, my F-935 uses two short throw cylinders on the pickup arms. I've also shortened cylinders by cutting down the barrels of a new cylinder using a table saw with a metal cutting wheels. Rethread the tie rods and presto! I did this for my front mounted snow plow lift.

Regal Recycling in Howell has a mower "U-Pull-it" yard. If you find a mower cylinder there, you can buy it cheap. Bring your own tools.

If money is no object, there are on-line listed shops that will make you a custom fitment.

Just curious...where is the valve that controls the cylinder you seek to be located?...

Hopefully under the box where it extends beyond the main frame. I can then linkage it to both sides. As an alt. one cylinder on each side but they need to be small so they don't stick out. Hadn't thought about it before; could mount on the tailgate itself-rather unconventional but might work. Thanks for helping me think about that.

Of course I totally misread your question! The VALVE will be located on the 2305 or off the loader circuit on the 317. I believe the 317 circuit will be too slow-low volume - 1/4 tube, on the front of the tractor, long way to go.

Thanks for the reference to Regal. Saw it from the hi-way but not sure of name or how to access. Sounds like a good idea, road trip next week. Not sure about cut-down (confidence?) but it may be the best solution.

Thanks to everyone, some good sources and suggestions. I'll try to spend some time on EBay. The others appear promising. I'll post the finished project when complete. Don't count on it too soon, I'm not very fast.
