Looking at a older Millermatic welder coming up for auction soon and I am wondering if anyone can identify what model it is (and what its worth).

I emailed the auctioneer, but thought I would post pictures in case he doesn't get back to me in time.

Thanks

Just a guess, but it looks too small to be a MIG welder. Could be a wire feeder, to be used with a MIG power supply.

Ah, that makes sense... I'll probably pass on it then

It looks like there is a spool gun lying on top of what I'd guess was the control box for it. Not really useable unless you have something like a CP300 to stuff in the big void underneath it to drive it. If you can get it for dirt cheap it would be worth it for the leads and bottle.

Am I correct in assuming that there isnt any way to verify that its a owned bottle vs a leased bottle short of bringing the bottle into my local refiller?
Might be worth bidding up to what the bottle is worth and the selling the wire feeder and leads...

Your picture is too small to tell for sure but I also thinks it's a control box to run a spool gun c/w the spool gun. It's not very common anymore because of the cost but, contrary to popular belief, spool guns will run quite well off a DC stick (CC) welder as well as a CV machine. The control box needed usually has a contactor and a bunch of electronics. If you could get it for a few hundred bucks would be a great deal. The control box looks like it could be a WC 3. Once you know the model of the "weld control" you can look up a manual on the Miller site and see how to hook it up and what all machines it will work on. Just beware that it is not a power source by itself.

What size machine would be needed to power it?

If it's what I think it is, just about any machine with DC current (CC or CV)of 150 amps or more. You could run it off an engine drive as well. I think all you need is 115 volts to operate the contactor. That's why I said to find out for sure what model it is but it looks like a WC 3 from what little I saw on a quick look on the internet. The manual would show how to hook it up. I know a guy that had a bunch of aluminum end dumps and ran a spool gun with similar set up off a Dial-Arc 250 AC/DC stick welder. A new set up like that would be fairly pricey. With MIG being so popular now, most of the machines have a direct plug in for a spool gun.

I'd bid 150 bucks max for the lot, keep the leads/cylinder/cart and sell the machine if I didn't use it.

Arc Weld is correct. It's just the control box to run a spool gun. What power supply it fits will also depend on if it's a spool matic 1 2 or 3 spool gun. I used to see these on the older Regency units and some CP 2 & 300's..Not a big market for these anymore.
