...The outhouse was out of TP so momma wrote a letter to Sears & Robuck asking them to send us some...Sears sent a letter back saying the order would have to be made out of the catalog...momma wrote back saying that if we had a catalog we wouldn't need the TP...!

I wonder how many of our members grew up in a time and location in which they actually did have an outhouse and use the Sears Roebuck (also known as Sears Rareback) and Montgomery Wards (also known as Monkey Wards) catalogues. I've been there and don't miss those days at all.

Maybe because I can't see myself scooting around on the carpet on my rear end like our dog does.:laughing:
Or maybe because humans are the only species that wears clothes?

It's possible to use a pitcher of water and the left hand, as is done in the Middle East. That takes a little getting used to, but actually fairly sanitary.

When I first got established here (N.E. GA Mtns.) in the early 70's (far removed from the time you recalled)...some of the first jobs I did for neighbors was adding indoor plumbing...a couple had inside (cold) running water but no real facilities...all had outhouses...
