fuel addative

seafoam and stabil is what I use.

i know ethanol is an octane mod. ( among many... ) anyone know if the higher oct fuels have more ethanol in them.

I have really good luck with "Seafoam" additive. I purchase it from my local TSC store. Each time I fuel up I put a dash of seafoam in the fuel tank.
I think there are about 8 small engines around here and all are starting and working as advertised.

It also seems to me, higher octane gasoline stays fresher longer. Anyone else have any thoughts about this?

Use a glug of seafoam per tank and install a fuel shut off to run dry at end of season

i love that glug method.

I'm a big fan of calibrated glug-glugs.

If you have a fuel shutoff, it's always a very good idea in the off season to run carburetors dry. Only in the summer with lawn mowers can I get away with not doing this. Many inlet needle valves with get a piece of trash under them, and you can actually run them with it there, but they'll leak fuel out of the tank if you don't have a fuel shutoff. Got a gasoline generator that's that way now. Turn the valve on, and it starts leaking fuel after the bowl is filled. I like it. It primes the intake with fuel so I don't need any ether to start it after sitting.

I've used Sea Foam on a number of engines, and it has saved me having to tear a carburetor apart. In fact, I don't think I've taken one off since starting to use Sea Foam.

I have a 6.5 Onan former r.v. generator. the original owner complained about the fuel flooding . so exchanged with another. purchased cheap thought knew enough to repair. and found the float stuck down when ran dry and then starting the fuel pump poured gas out of carb.
Several times exchanged the check valve to no effect cleaned carb. this morning with the temp at 8 degrees and needing power sure enough the float was stuck and engine flooding and stopping. taking the carb top off the float again sitting stuck at bottom of float bowl and touching the float popped into the proper position. re-cleaned and saw nothing to stick and cannot get it to act up. then saw the screw that holds the pin for the float to rest in proper position. Had forced the pin to be off set enough to bind when engine was not level. it was about thickness of 2x4 off level. retightened the screw and have enjoyed the use of power today.
I purchase gas in 55 gal. barrow amount and whole sale dealer says it is already stabilized with no alcohol. also no grit to get in carb. due to fuel filter.
so if you have a leak recheck for problems more so than just check valve.

the MARINE sta bil states it takes care of the ethanol problem and stabilizes gas for 12 months. whether it does or not who knows. my boat mech says it does. I use it in all my tillers, mowers, sprayers, etc etc. I also run the carb dry whenever possible.

as anyone had luck with addatives for small carberated engines? it seems everytime i go to run my splitter i have to pull the carb and clean it. is it better to leave fuel in bowl or put in shuttoff and run it dry? thanks for any input and merry christmas!
Marine grade stabil or star-brite.

I use star-tron mixed with stabil. The stabil is cheaper but I don't think as good. I use it to stretch the star-tron, and I like the Stabil premeasure bottles. I put it in my jerry-cans immediately when I fill them. All my machines start and run good, and I leave fuel in them for months at a time. I use Power service in my diesel fuel.

Shell V-power has NO ethanol. According to their website and the label on the pumps. It is their 'premium' gas

On gasoline equipment not used that much or seasonal, I make sure to run the carburetors dry before shutting them off. Still have had several cases of sputtering or missing or not idling. All these were solved with some Sea Foam additive put into the tanks. Haven't had to tear a carburetor apart in a long time.
