JD 4320???

Just picked up a 4120. Have had a 4310 and older ford 600 series tractors. Haven't put the 4120 to any serious work yet but so far seems very capable. The 4320 is identical with 5 more hp. Debated about a 3000 series for a while, glad I went bigger.

I would check out a Mahindra - He can get a lot more tractor including a Cab for what he would pay for a JD - If he is set on a JD - It is a great tractor, but way out of my price range.

I just got my 4320 2 weeks ago and I should have done it years ago. I ran Massey compacts since 2006, started with a 1547, then a 1533 and finally a 1648 and like I said should have just bought the Deere first. This isn't a green versus other colours issue, and no offence Redblok, but you only think you get a lot more for a lot less when in all reality you get a lot more for what it's worth in the John Deere, stronger, faster Transmission, more responsive hydraulics, more power to the ground, the things that are important when you put your tractor to work. I think anything in the 4000 series would be great, I can only comment on the 4320 and I am more than pleased, I'd tell him go for it and I agree with Rockgod on the Cab.

No offense taken - I have been shopping tractors for about 18 months ( I took an 8 month break from shopping.) I got back into shopping knowing that the Tier IV restrictions go into effect soon. I really do like JD tractors very much and think they make a great product, especially in the over 100Hp size machine. Their 4000 series Cab tractors are awesome. What I don't understand about JD is the pricing. You can go from dealer to dealer and the pricing will vary by thousands of $$ for the same exact tractor. Every time I go into a JD dealership within 100 miles of my property, it is a take it or leave attitude. I have asked them point blank about the pricing difference and always get some sort of story that doesn't add up

As far as Mahindra, they are the number 1 selling tractor in the world and they are getting ready to launch a major effort for the US market. There is a recent article in Bloomberg Business about Mahindra and how they are looking at the market (No I don't support Bloomberg.). Money is tight all around - I always hear about resale value and buying enough tractor on this site.
Well you can't buy enough tractor if it is over priced too. Compare the stat's between a JD 4120 and a Mahindra 4035. They are both impressive, but since a number of things like 4 and 5th rear hydraulics are options on the JD, you have to add a lot to the JD. That price difference is quite substantial. That being said, there is a bigger JD dealership network, although more and more have been closing or consolidating. Parts may or may not be more readily available. It costs money to have parts in stock at the ready. Again, I think that JD outshines it's competition on point of service support. My main concern with LS, Kioti, TYM and Mahindra is the point of service after the sale.

Kubota is not included in the point of service concern because they are well established in the US. That was not the case in the late 1980's when I worked for a private builder doing the landscaping for the new house we build. My boss wanted a JD, could only afford a Kubota. He bought the Kutoba and drove it wearing a JD hat. He told me that the hat made him color blind and turned orange into green.

I think it comes down to what a person can afford and how much tractor they need. Again - I do like the JD and would love to have one in my barn, but not at the price that they are currently at. Again - no offense taken -

Yes they are considerably more by the time you add the options, which by the way were all standard equipment on my Massey (work lights, mirrors, rear wiper) but the ability to work is far greater for me on the JD and my dealer is awesome for dealing with any problems so that is a huge bonus. I agree work within what you can afford and that's how I started out, just finally made the step up, mind you I won't give up my 105hp Massey for a John Deere.

I suspect that in NH he will have less difficulty with the cabin filter than you and I do in our dry climate.

I agree, I don't think they should put a cab on the 4320 or the 3320. I also would not want a cab because I am constantly up and down off the tractor when landscaping.

Tractor is good

AC System sucks - there is not real practical way to keep it clean in any kind of dirty environment. Shredding, raking hay, etc junk. JD failed on this one.

I don't miss the AC headaches of that tractor at all.

Yup - just to add some more color.

AC system failed the first time we used it for raking hay - weeks after we bought it new. We replaced our 4720 open station tractor with a 4520 cab so my wife could rake in comfort. It was a headache for the 5 years I owned it. It is hard to imagine how much of a headache the AC system is on that tractor. It is too bad - the rest of the tractor is pretty figured out.
