Is the dash showing the green indicator lights ( H-N-M-N-L ) when you move the shifter? If so it is not your range sensor. I have never seen one go bad. Most likely your key switch or start control relay located on the firewall. If I was to take a guess the relay would be the first thing to check. The fact that it started after wiggling and disconnecting the range switch might be pure coincidence.

I will check the ignition module when I get home. How should I go about testing it? The relay on the firewall is ok. I unplugged the one on the far left and plugged in to the one on the far right. No change. I figured they were the same relay why not!
Thanks
Nick

Does the glow plug start up work?

No it doesn't seem to light up. But, the motor was warm when I was trying to start it. Will it still light up when the key is turned with a warmed up motor?

so it lights up and when you turn it to start---nothing, not even dash lights?

So NO lights at all?

No it will not.. Not if the water temp sensor says the coolant is above 86 degrees F.

Tell us what you DO see. Headlights. Dash lights, and if so which ones.. L N M H range lights? if so then the range potentiaometer is OK. It is not a switch but a pot that applies a variable voltage to the control module depending on its position. The start relay is on the left of the firewall, looking toward the seat, then the glow plug relay in the middle then the fuel solenoid relay, The key switch is a known problem spot, shoot your favorite lube in there just to see. WD40 if nothing else. Report back and we will go from there.

What happened to "wiggled the Range Shift Sensor and it started" from post #4?

just the low oil pressure light and the neutral light. Brake if its on. dash lights work when lights or the high beam is on. The battery light will also come on but it is not as bright as the other lights. I can wiggle the key and the battery light will change intesity or, it will not illuminate at all. The battery is fine seeing how when the tractor finally wants to start, it starts right up.

Next step. Follow the ground wire from the battery to the frame connection point. Remove the bolt and clean the connector and frame with emery or sand paper. I know that it started once but I have seen this ground cause this issue more than once. Also Verify your battery connections.

You can check to see if it is ignition switch or control module with a meter. The key switch puts 12VDC positive to the positive side of the start relay coil when in crank position. Disconnect the relay and probe the connector where it plugs into the relay. You can put your meter on DC volts, connect the black lead to a good frame ground and probe the positive coil connector while putting the key in crank. You should get 12V. Next clip your positive lead to the battery and probe the negative side of the coil. You should register 12V with the key in run and crank.

Let us know what you find.
