Hi all,

I am having trouble releasing the pressure on the hydraulics so I can connect the backhoe on my Mahindra 2816.
I had problems before and don't remember how I solved the problem. I have set fel on the ground. Just don't
know what else I can do to stop having this problem. Any ideas?

With the tractor off, wiggle the valve levers to release any pressure.

The attachment hyd pressure will need to be released.

That is accomplished by using a dowel or brass rod and rag, and the female QD. Smack the dowel or rod on the ball or poppet and some fluid should come out. You should then be able to connect. You could also unscrew the QD from the hose end.

There are connect under pressure QD' from most of the QD manufacturers.

Ditto. I had the same problem with a new grapple. Used the method above and everything worked perfect.

Had the same problem with my grapple. Changed the QD'S to the style used on skid steers that have a relief built in. Work great!

Another option is to carefully unscrew one coupler from the hose it's attached to, a turn or two, until you see the pressure bleed off.

They also make a tool that looks something like a C clamp with a fork in the fixed end. Slide the coupler into the fork, screw the clamp down until it depresses the ball or pin in the end of the coupler. Much more controllable, less likely to damage the coupler.

I would buy one. Great idea.

I've had this problem a couple of times when I (lazily) let my backhoe attachment settle to the ground after it had been removed from the tractor. What I do now is put some blocks under it and relieve the pressure from the hydraulics before disconnecting from the tractor. In the cases where I let it settle down - it was obvious the pressure in the hoe lines were preventing me from connecting it back up to the tractor.

What I finally did to relieve the pressure - not sure what type of fittings you have , but one of mine had a "nipple" sticking out - so I took that hose and whacked the nipple square against the operator platform - this was enought to give some pressure relief - which then let me connect the fitting up to the tractor.

I've tried two different types of Quick Attachments and haven't figured out how to relieve the pressure without unscrewing them from the hose and bleeding out the fluid. I've totally given up on QA fittings and now just thread them together when I change attachments or I screw on a cap to plug them when not in use. This has proven to be faster and easier for me.

Not that the pressure is that severe, but you can't be too careful when it comes to hydraulics.... cover the end with a rag and maybe some hand and eye protection. When I have to bang the end of the hose to relieve pressure it tends to spray all over...
