rear blade advice 29hp tractor

so I'm thinking of getting a new rear blade for the 29hp cub yanmar ex2900. It's just shy of 60" wide and doesn't have loaded tires. I syped the tires last winter and have 600lbs in suitcase weights. I'm currently using an old 6 foot truck plow mounted on the 3 point. I hang some suitcase weights on it so it digs better and I add a couple to the front loader. I can tilt it so plowing straight makes the job take much longer. Normally I wouldn't mind extra play time, but we just had our first baby 5 days ago lol....so ya know. Do I go with a 6 foot or 7 foot blade? I want to tilt it of course. I'm thinking 6. we get hammered with snow...mostly lake effect so it's light and fluffy. The driveway is 100 yards long and widens out at the one end for parking. I hear that too big a blade will pull the tractor sideways etc. I think a 7 would kick butt!...even though I think I know a 6 would work better. this will only be for snow plowing. thanks:thumbsup:

Congrats to Mrs. and you new baby.

Rule of thumb angel rear blade should cover your rear tires,I would lean towards good heavy duty 7'er

I take you not using rear chains,if tractor spins etc. take light pull/push load until good traction.

For plowing only, I'd go 7. If you are talking rear blades, they are shorter in height too, so in a straight push, to still may not be as much as a 6' truck plow.

And you can always take smaller bites if you get hammered. But larger works better in the lighter dustings

For you're tractor, i'd recommend a 72" blade because if you do get in some heavier snow or decide to use it for grading, traction will be very limited with an 84".
Our 72" Value blade has tilt, angle and offset adjustments so you will be able to reach out more to one side if you need to by simply pulling a pin.
Some may recommend a $1,500 hydraulic angle blade that does everything but run itself....that is way overkill in my opinion.

Congrats on the new family member, I have the next size down from yours the sx3100. I found a great deal on a 7' land pride so i purchased it. This is also my first year using the rear blade. Still learning but when you angle the blade i am about 6-8"" wider on the sides of the tractor. The past two storms we had the first was 6" of heavy snow and it did pull the back end sides way. Once i lifted on the 3pt hitch alittle it was no problem. You get the feel for it after using it just lower the blade until it kicks out the rear and lift up until your straight and your good to go. The last storm 6" of fluffy snow was no problem with the blade all the way down. Seeing how your using it as i am just for snow and you have a larger unit i would say go with the 7' no questions asked. Like LD1 said you don't have to drop the 3pt all the way down just take a few more passes

thanks all...the 6' truck plow I have now works good but I can't tilt it...so I feel like it takes me a lot of extra time because I'm constantly cleaning up the rows of snow that overflow both edges. My father in law gave it to us so a freebie is always good. Will the tiltable plow really save me that much time?
