Anyone have a good design for a protectove PTO cover?

Why would you want to cover it? That seems like something I would remove and lose in on the top shelf somewhere in the barn. But... I use my pto a lot. Dont tell the safety police who patrol these threads but I will soon be removing the shield around my pto, very difficult to get pto shaft on/off. Cant get my hands in there to slide back the release collar.

Diesel, doesnt you PTO shield metal piece tip up? Most of the newer ones do. Some are very stiff, but a hit with a rubber mallet will usually break them loose, or you can loosen the "axle" bolts that it rotates upward on. I would almost bet it tips up to give you more room.

Thanks for the tip... will check it out but I think its a real basic shield just bolted on.

That's quite an imaginative solution for covering your PTO shaft. I guess you don't have much use for the PTO at this time, but it seems like if you were going to access it more often it might help to use bungee cords instead of having to cut and replace the wire ties each time.
I applaude your creativity. I take pride in finding "outside the box" solutions such as that, also. The end justifies the means.

I am new to tractors and have no immediate use for the rear PTO. Thought it would be best to cover until a later date to keep everyone safe.
Thought of using bungy cords, but the wire ties provide a safer means of fastening the cover until I begin using the PTO.

I checked my 3005... the top does in fact flip up... never noticed that feature before! The fact that I have only put the brush hog on/off 2 or 3 times likely has something to do with it! Thanks for the tip!
