What's your favorite big drain pan?

I cut the bottom 3rd of a 55 gallon barrel off, rolled the edge over a little and welded some handles on opposite sides for a nice, big drain pan. Just don't let it get all the way full and it is quite manageable.

I tried doing the same to a 35 gal poly barrel, it turned into a big egg shaped, narrow opening drain pan. Works but got to be precise on were you place it to catch fluids...

I did the same with a 55 gal plastic barrel. Cut about 8 to 10" up from the bottom and cut a notch on the side to pour the oil out into a container. Works great.

When I changed hyd. oil on my mini excavator, (22 gals.) I "borrowed" one of my wife's 30+ gallon poly storage containers. I had to run the mini ex up on 2 railroad ties to get enough height under the belly pan. It worked great except for the part of getting the old oil transferred into 5gal. pails. finally cut the end off a 1 gallon plastic oil bottle and used it as a scoop. Now I have a dedicated drain pan for next time, as she refused to use the storage container again...Dan

Scavenged plastic barrels are my favorite, you can use the top 1/3 AND the bottom 1/3. They are very easy to cut, inexpensive (~$7) and readily available.

My "favorite" drain pan is an old porcelainized drawer from a 'fridge, NOTHING will stick to it and it drains COMPLETELY!

I use an old porcelain-coated steel turkey roasting pan. It was in the cellar and covered with dirt/mouse turds/who knows what else when we bought the house. For some reason my wife didn't want to use it for its intended purpose. :licking:
It holds a little over 7 qt.
