Question for Jim, or others with an ATV in Texas.

Did you get a title for you're ATV? If so, what was the process cost?

I bought a Polaris in Colorado using my Navy fed credit union, now they want a title. No big deal, but I'm afraid the "good deal" that rolled the taxes into the sale, will come back and bite me in the %$#.

Brandi,

Using a well known Texan's term. " From The Gully To The Pond" ............ in 2 days.

Just going by the photos, I think of a couple of questions? That are probably moot 20 years later.
Where did he move the top soil? Most importantly.........did he dig a dam keyway, or just push dirt up into a dam?
It really is a nice dam and pond. Dams around here are curved, not straight.
hugs, Brandi

The top soil went back in the field. Small key way; the dam is all clay. There is a straight property line about 40 feet south of the dam, in the trees, that and the lay of the land ( gully) dictated that the dam be straight. I was going to make the pond bigger but started getting into a coal seam which might have released bad water into the pond. Curved dams and kidney shaped pools look nice but you won't find many in these parts unless somebody just dug a depression in a level field and made the birm round shaped.

Coal? You got a coal mine? So why all the straight dams? I can see a small one being straight, but how long is yours?

Dennis, I don't have an ATV, but the Kawasaki Mule UTV came with a bill-of-sale and an ownership certificate, but not an official Texas Title. Since it is governed to less than 25 mph, it is not considered a motor vehicle or motorcycle. I believe the State is not issuing titles on all trailers either. Some single axle trailers can be registered with a bill-of-sale (I believe).

Jim, I was speaking to the DMV and she said ALL utv/atv (classed by DPS as LOV's/ ROV's, yeah I know acronyms LOL) had to be titled. But not registered.

Excerpt from DMV:
"Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (ROVs) – are required to be titled, effective September 1, 2009; however, some may qualify for a title exemption by completing the Form VTR-329, Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Used for Farming or Lawn Care."

I have the Polaris ranger side-by-side, similar to the Mule i think??

I'm just hoping to not get killed with another tax bill!

Yep, I've registered trailers as "home made" with no serial number, brand name, etc. The little trailer I currently have is one I bought from Lowe's, made by Carry-On Trailer Corp. (sold also at Tractor Supply Co., Northern Tool, etc.) so I have a real official looking "Certificate of Origin for a Vehicle" with the VIN, weight, dealer, etc. and on the back are places for any sales and to whom.

Lou, according to the DMV website and the DMV here in my county, we have to have at least a title. Registration doesn't apply since for the most part (few exceptions) UTV,ATV, aren't legal on the roadways.
