Yep, I've registered trailers as "home made" with no serial number, brand name, etc. The little trailer I currently have is one I bought from Lowe's, made by Carry-On Trailer Corp. (sold also at Tractor Supply Co., Northern Tool, etc.) so I have a real official looking "Certificate of Origin for a Vehicle" with the VIN, weight, dealer, etc. and on the back are places for any sales and to whom.

Bird, when I was in LE, you could use a trailer, untitled , as long as the total GVMW was 4000# or less, BUT it has been a while. Farm trailers didn't need either registration or title I believe if under 34k or 32K. but would need a farm tag and the whole "shibang" after that??

Brandi,
Try wild celery for your ducks. Get the seeds, put them in some burlap with some small rocks, tie it up. You can toss the little sack you made into the pond. The burlap will rot and the seeds will plant themselves. Ducks love it.

Dennis, I currently have this little 5' x 8' single axle trailer with a supposedly empty weight of 350 lbs. and a gross weight of 2,000 lbs. License plates cost me $60.50 a year and I rarely use the trailer. I'd be ahead to sell it and rent a U-Haul when I need a trailer.

But when I lived down in Navarro County, I had a 5' x 10' single axle tiltbed trailer and a 6' x 16' twin axle trailer, and had farm plates that cost $5.30 a year, and the first time I saw that 34,000 gross weight I thought they'd made a mistake, but the lady said they just showed that same weight for all farm trailers. Can't you just imagine 34,000 on either of those trailers? But it was sure thing that I was not going to be caught over weight.

Question for Jim, or others with an ATV in Texas.

Did you get a title for you're ATV? If so, what was the process cost?

I bought a Polaris in Colorado using my Navy fed credit union, now they want a title. No big deal, but I'm afraid the "good deal" that rolled the taxes into the sale, will come back and bite me in the %$#.

Once i paid for both my 4wheeler and side by side they sent the titles in mail.

I got the "Certificate of Origination" from the dealer. Doing a Google search, I saw many buyers didn't arbitrarily get a "title", they got the same thing as I did. From what I have gathered, most dont get titled unless they have too, to avoid the sales tax??

Bird, I knew it was 30,000 something:laughing: I loved it when I had "farm tags" on most of my road worthy trucks and equipment, but since they changed the criteria (similar to the farm tax exemptions changed) I wasn't going to test the system since I would be so borderline on the new regs. $60 for that small trailer is ludicrous IMO, Texas sure has found ways to hammer the folk on the fine details of Texas liv'n.

My 14,000 pound gooseneck was registrated with farm tags and I paid $5 plus change each year for tags. The title stated 14,000 pounds. My new dual tandem 10 ton gooseneck didn't come with a title. I got the title after I found out the dealer hadn't requested one. It states 22,500 pounds on the title. You need correct weight on the title, because that weight goes onto the registration. Commerical vehicles have to carry proof of registration so Smokey knows what your gross weights are. Remember, I just got my CDL. That lady up in Navarro County was wrong.

If I was you Bird, I would get farm tags for your little trailer.

"Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (ROVs) are required to be titled, effective September 1, 2009; however, some may qualify for a title exemption by completing the Form VTR-329, Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Used for Farming or Lawn Care."

That explains it. Our Mule is a 2004 and predated the requirement for a title. My ownership certificate was issued by the dealership rather than the state.

Ron- this is a pecan pie recipe I use to use at the restaurant.

Jack Daniel's Chocolate Pecan Pie

Rich pie with a touch of kentucky bourbon to enhance an already amazing pie. Chocolate and nutty, this is a great pie for serving to guests and family, especially during the holidays.

Ingredients -

1 (9 inch) Pastry Shell
3 Extra-Large Eggs
2 Extra-Large Egg Yolks
2/3 cup Sugar
3/4 cup Dark Corn Syrup
5 tablespoons Butter, melted
1/4 cup Jack Daniel's or Whiskey
1/2 cup chopped Bittersweet Chocolate or SemiSweet Chocolate Morsels
1-1/4 cups Pecan Halves or pieces

Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
2. Place pastry dough into pie plate.

3. Trim dough even with the plate edge.

4. Place the pie plate on baking sheet.

5. Combine eggs, egg yolks, and sugar in a large bowl. Whisk together until well mixed.

6. Fold in the corn syrup, butter and whiskey. Blend well.

7. Dust 1/3 cup of the chocolate pieces over the bottom of the pastry crust.

8. Pour in the pecan pie mixture.

9. Dust 1/2 cup of the pecans over the filling.

10. Dust remaining chocolate over pie filling and top with remaining pecans.

Lou may like this one.

Charlie

Charlie,
How long do I cook the pie? 50 minutes or until a knife stuck in it comes out clean? This is what my old pecan recipe states. I making it tonight.

Brandi, I just transfer some farm plates to my name and the new State Law requires a Texas Agriculture or Timber Registration Number to obtain the farm plates.

I also heard they are starting to look closely at truck farm plate usage. Just be sure if you are ever stopped with truck farm plates to know that you are going to pick up feed or one of the other allowable activities only.

2 days before Christmas and Austin Texas retail business is booming. Monday morning the Mall parking lots are full the malls are crowded, the shelves are getting empty, everyone is walking around with bags in hand. The strip centers were a parking in the streets parking places hard to find. World market checkout line wrapped to the back of the store, Barnes and Nobel had a 50 people line checkout. Target parking lot full but enough checkouts so wait was not long. I'm finished!

What a beautiful night. Clear and crisp. Stars are magnificent. Wish I had the back patio area done. This is the ideal night to build a fire in the fire pit, put on some good music and read a good novel or hang out with friends.

That's where I did my shopping, except for a few things at Target. I just went to town for an entertainment called people swarming watching.

I do the same thing at public boat ramps on holiday weekends. Worth the price of admission and more watching people launch their boat for the first time in years.

I don't think she was wrong at that time. As you can see from txdon's post above, I don't think I could get farm plates, even if I tried, but knowing it's illegal, no way I'd try.

We went to have dinner at the home of some friends, then drove around Denton a bit, and it's the same way; never seen so many cars at the Golden Triangle Mall or around the strip mall that includes Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond and others.

 Beat me to it. Not worth getting a citation.
