JD 1070
I have a 1989 JD 1070 tractor with model 80 loader. I bought it in 2009 off of CL. The guy said he "just replaced the seat". It looked fairly new and didn't get concerned over it. Now the seat has seen better days and I'd like to get a now one this coming spring. There's a ton on Ebay but I don't trust a lot of the sellers on there. The seat on there now is all black and I'd like to get a JD yellow on one but it's not required. I'm more concerned that if I pay $200 that I get a $200 seat that fits correctly and will last a while. Is there a way of knowing if a seat fits? Let's hear your opinions.

I have done business with these folks for years and bought a replacement seat for my JD 3020 from them and it is great...

When I replaced my Kubota Seat I did some google searches. Make sure you check the bolt pattern. There are a number of sources that you will find.

The seat on mine is black also, as are most that I see. I think it is original.

Yeah, all the x70 series (and their progeny: 790,990, 3005 and 4005) had black seats. I had a Deere 670 and 790...the seats were OK, but I do (IMHO) think the yellow seat on the late 90's through mid-2000's 4000 series are more comfortable.

I was looking around online after posting the question. I think I may have found a solution on the Tractor Supply website. Found a yellow replacement seat. I really don't want a seat cover as my current seat is coming apart on top, right in the seam between the front and rear of the seat. In reading the reviews, 2 of the 4 reviews used it on a JD 4600 and it worked great. The 1070 like mine was replaced with the 4600 so I'm thinking this should fit the bill.

Still , like Roy suggested ...check your bolt pattern...even though your 1070 was replaced by the 4600...they may have changed the config. of the seat's bolt pattern...

The 4600 is not a direct replacement for the 1070...the 990 would be more like it. For one thing, the 1070 and 990 are built by Yanmar, the 4600 is Deere built (Athens, Georgia, I think) but does use a Yanmar engine. It's possible they share the same bolt pattern for the seat, but I wouldn't bet on it
If your seat is coming away from the metal bucket (and not the seams splitting), you can glue the seat back in place. I had to do this with my 4400. I used Gorilla glue and a 50 lb bag of sand to hold the seat in position until the glue cured.

The black seat was what was on my 1050 when it was new. I still have the same seat on it. With the year of your machine, I suspect black is what it came with new.
