My wife and I have had a difficult year in the life department. First we lost our beloved Rocky Dog who was the center of our universe. Then my wife's mother, who was just an amazing woman. Third, my oldest friend, who I have known for 40 years died last week. I don't think I can handle much more. Combine this with the normal nostalgia this time of year, another year older, and the normal rat race in general, and I'm scrambling looking for answers. I feel I have lost my way. How do the rest of you deal with life when you feel everything is spinning out of control ?
As we age, our circle ages, and the frequency of bad news increases. I wrestle in my attitude and understanding, as well.
My limited understanding of life, involves much of what others have said. I believe the Creator God is sovereign. I need to trust Him in times of good or great trouble (though I wrestle with that, and am learning at it daily), with a devout heart of worship and repentance.
Someone else mentioned that no one is doing this to you. I'm not certain of that. The book of Job reveals the dark side of the spiritual realm. It's not a book for the faint of heart, but I think it reveals a spiritual battle around us that influences us.
Another mentioned communicating with spirits. That too is real. Throughout the bible, people did. Some were good. Some were evil. The good always pointed to God, and rejected a focus on themselves.
The book of Ecclesiastes, written by King Solomon, addresses your very question. What is the meaning of life? It is worth a prayerful read.
All of us, like you, struggle with lifes challenges, blessings, heartaches, and questions. We all get down in spirit, too. King David wrote many psalms from that perspective, as he too struggled.
An amazing example of a man in scripture, is Joseph, son of Jacob. A read of his life is so full of ups and downs, it will make your head spin. But he trusted, and more importantly followed, God.
Pain and death, to me, should be an alarm reminder to consider the very question you are asking. Pain and death should draw us to consider creation, leading us to the Creator. I hope your question leads you to a fruitful quest.
I have many questions, too.
I know the Living God has the answers.
I'm not sure how much I actually will understand by the end of life. But I need to trust him, devoutly, as I approach each day of it.
From the posted replies, I hope you are encouraged that you are not alone.
