My local newspaper is a big disappointment

Oh, and I didn't see any bias in the story. To me, bias would be expressing a favoring position of one over the other. I did see a lack of a viewpoint of the victims as you mentioned, but that's not bias to me. Its just leaving an important piece of the story out.... an omission. I supposed that could be construed as bias by omission. Anytime you have a story about someone in jail, you should probably include the viewpoints of the victims, just to balance it out. Anyhow, its good that folks express their opinions to the editors. They won't know what the community thinks if no one tells them.

Must have been a slow news day.

Local newspaper?? Our local paper is now so small they couldn't have printed that article. Our paper went from 7 days, to 6 days to 3 days now. It's so thin......not much coverage of anything now. The print media will soon be gone. In any event.....good letter you sent.....

Who knows what will be printed by a local paper? They seem to do an ok job locally if there is no content, names, dates and places.

In another 10-20 most paper print readers will have expired so will that form of media as noted by jerrybob. News has been replaced by entertainment but labeled as news.

Great response to the 'story' Jim!

Please let us know if any responses show up. Sometimes other readers will write in to support or counter a letter to the editor, sorta like forums. It would be interesting to follow this a bit.

I am betting he'll get some "We appreciate your feed back" canned response, if any at all.

Yes, do keep us posted.

Our newspaper is not a daily publication. It is only three days per week and I get it delivered in the mail. I'll keep an eye on the online version and the published copies I receive. I doubt I will hear directly as a reply to my email. They typically don't do that. Perhaps, it enhances their neutrality.

EDIT:
I just checked the Wise County Messenger's website and found that they had published my letter dated 1 Jan 2014. That means it will probably appear in the New Year's addition of the printed version. On the website, there was one response/comment to my letter and it was very supportive.

I can read our local Sunday paper in about 10 minutes...I'm not that old, but I do enjoy the print version vs the online..Easier to look through I think.

Sadly, about 8 years ago our local went all lib then the wheels came off as far as their production and subscriber base..Coincidence? I think not...They were fairly balanced in their previous incarnation. I'm more drawn to opposing points of view than my own in a paper, but it's nice to see balance. You really don't see that anymore.
