12 volt pump to lift farm implements question

Aaron,

Thanks for the detailed parts list...exactly what I was looking for. The link you posted is the exact model of bed I have, and it has a raise/lower pendant in the cab. I'm guessing that simply reverses the pump motor.

Does the motor turn on when its lowering? I could probbaly draw a wiring diagram if you could post a picture of the pump and how its wired.

I've studied this equipment pretty closely, and see nothing that could be considered a "transport latch". The PO had one hydraulic cylinder that raised/lowered the wheels on all 3 implements, and just moved it around. That cylinder's status is unknown, but the hydraulic connections laid in the dirt/grass so long that they're unusable.

I know I can come up with solutions, but it would be much simpler if the implements were at my shop.

I'm definitely looking for the right way to do it, but want to make use of this old gear that is really solid and unbelievably priced.

EDIT: I found a picture of the plow, and maybe the area I've highlighted was once a transport latch, or at least a depth control of some sort. You can also see the existing cylinder. I have the wheels off, replacing the ancient/rotted rubber. View attachment 352921

No, I don't think that would be a transport latch. I'd guess you are on the right track that it is a depth control or adjustment some how. Transport latch would simply be a pin inserted somewhere (usually near the hyd cyl) that locks it in full up position. The weight of the equipment bouncing down the road can place huge shock loads on the cyl. If it or the hoses were ever to fail, it would get messy quickly.

As the equipment is in the state of the pic, you'd still likely need the hyd power to get it up on the wheels, depending on seized pivots etc. I'd assumed that the equipment was already mobile, just needed lifting. Based on the pic, I'd get one of the ratchet jacks previously mentioned just to get them home.

Ha...yeah, I know it looks pretty rough. Still, the package deal can't be ignored...I could sell it for scrap and make money.

In pulling the wheels off, I've cycled the pivots and know they aren't seized. I'll take some measurements soon and see if that ratchet jack will do the trick. I still like the idea of extending the use of the bed hydraulics, longer term.

Here's a pic of the chisel, also showing the disc in the background. The chisel is a Krause, the plow is a Case, and I can't find a plate on the disc. 1-2-2014 10-24-10 AM.jpg

If I plan to use (or at least, attempt to use) that cylinder, should just cycling the ram with the hoses off be enough to chase the old fluid out? I have no idea what condition it's in, and don't want it mixed with any of my other systems.

On the Oliver 3 bottom plow we had, a similar lever was used to adjust left vs right tire height.

A deal is a deal.

In the pic of the chisel, there appears to be a second hole on the rear hyd mount below/behind the knotch. I'd suspect that will line up with another hole for the transport pin.

If you want to try using the old hyd hose and cyl, drain them first before connecting. Yes, as you said, cycling with the hoses off (and the ports facing down) will get most of the fluid out and will also give you a chance to see what it looks like. If it looks decent, then don't be worried about the last little bit of fluid. If it looks like crap, then you need to flush the old stuff a bit better. Drain the hoses also.

Good point. Also, does your bale lift use hydraulic fluid or something else (ATF, Motor Oil, etc)? If it doesn't use hydraulic fluid, I would switch it to hydraulic fluid so as to avoid contaminating the fluid on your tractor.

My J&I rd bale spikes are controlled by a hard wired switch in my truck cab but today they offer wireless switches. You could spend the money for this valve(SAE 8 15 GPM DOUBLE SELECTOR VALVE 12 VDC P15544-1) but just to attach implements for transport it isn't necessary. I'd just tee into lines with QD's and chain my spears to GN ball in the vertical position.

Just an observation I did not see addressed...

I realize this thread was started a while back and has been revived with similar but different equipment...

However the OP mentioned that the 12V pump used Dexron (ATF) and the tractor uses standard hydraulic...

(FWIW...I have a Williams bed lift pump that uses ATF also... they are quite common)

Using a small (ATF) bed lift pump on tractor implement cylinders it will cause issues and could contaminate the tractor's hydraulics...

EDIT..

Sorry 'aczlan'...missed your recent post on the matter...
