Any Skype users here?

I will be traveling to Australia for 30 days and I'm trying to figure the best way to communicate back and forth to Louisiana.

I know that I can use Skype to make calls back to the USA, but how do I use Skype to RECEIVE calls while I'm in Australia.

I think that I can get a Skype number and forward my cell number to the Skype number and received calls like that, but I haven't been able to confirm that. And getting information from Skype seems to be impossible.

Does anyone know if my idea will work? Or if there are any other suggestions on how I could make and receive calls to my cell phone while in Australia, without running up a $1000 AT&T bill?

I believe you are correct. But how can I recieve calls on my cell phone from my customers and employees while I'm in Australia? And can I receive calls by them calling my current cell number?

I travel quite a bit overseas and use Skype to call home. I think it is $60 (per year) to get your own "phone" number. Then you can have Skype calls forwarded to your cell phone. I don't use this feature. If someone, known to me, calls my cell I don't answer it but use Skype to return the call. Works well and is much cheaper than international roaming charges. Hope this helps. I've been to Australia (Sydney) many times and it is a beautiful country with great people.
Cheers,
Joe

If whoever is calling you has skype, the just need to call you via skype. Like if your family, wants to talk, they just need to call you with skype, just as you would call them.

But, I dont like skype. Dont know if its the phones or the area, but Tango seemed to be much faster and clearer than skype.

Have only used Skype on my tablet. It seems that you could download the Skype app to your phone, and then use it that way.

I have Skype on my iPhone use domestic. Don't see why wouldn't work overseas though. It has same dialling setup as computer. You can download to yr phone and use their help function to get more info.

I would use Google Voice. Free to setup and get a local (ish) number. Dialing *71######### on your cellphone (where the # is your google voice number) sends any missed calls to Google Voice and you can answer them on you computer or with a Google Voice app on a phone, tablet, etc anywhere you have an internet connection.
No fuss, no muss, it just works.
You have to be in the US and have a US phone number to set it up, but once its setup, you can use it anywhere with an internet connection.

Checked with daughter. She uses Skype overseas. Says as long as overseas cellphone is on wifi no special numbers needed calling in or out.

Thanks for all the replies. But, I still don't think my question has been answered.

Let me give an example. Let's say a new customer sees my yellowbook ad which has my current cell phone number listed, and they call that number. Can I have that call forwarded to Skype? Or to Google Voice? This potential new customer would not know that I'm out of the country, and probably would not have Skype.

Or, if they call my cell number, and leave a voicemail, can I retrieve that message in Skype? Or Google Voice? or some other way?

I already have Skype on my iPhone 5S and it works fine while on wifi. I've tried the Skype 'help' on their web site, but couldn't find the answer to my question.
