I have a seemingly simple question for you guys. I bought a wood splitter homemade 3point tractor set up and want to run it on my bobcat 773. I don't know hydro systems that well, so my question is if I want to run the splitter from a control valve that was mounted to the splitter out side of the cab, assuming I will need to hit my constant flow on my joystick in the cab to get pressure flowing, do I need to install a cross over fitting tying the supply and return lines together so it can circulate when the splitter valve is not open? Or is it ok to flip the pressure on against closed valves? It seems to me that some of my attachments have crossover or pressure relieve systems (blower, mower ect). Just want to do this right the first time without breaking something.

Get a open center valve. Then it just lets the fluid go through until you move the lever.
Make sure it can handle the pressure that your 773 puts out.

If your hyd system is a constant flow, using a gear pump, when the pump is turning, the fluid is going somewhere.

I would assume that the pump is pumping and flowing through an aux control valve with no pressure.

When you flip the switch to allow flow to the aux circuit, there must be something plugged into the circuit and the QD's in use, or a dead head will occur.

I think if the log splitter is an open center hyd system, and the machine is an open center system, that you would just plug in the log splitter hose to the aux circuit.

Pressure out from Bobcat, will go to the IN port of the log splitter.

Then the log splitter will direct the fluid to the extend or retract side of the cyl.

If the 3pt splitter is a closed center system, you need to change out the valve to open center valve.

If the log splitter valve has a PB port, you can plug that and use the return.

Do not use reverse on the aux valve or you will damage seals on the log splitter valve by flowing fluid the wrong way.

Any way to identify visually if my splitter valve is closed or open?

Yes, if you use air pressure.

Some valves can be modified for open center or closed center.

Put air into the IN port.

If the valve is closed center, in neutral, no air should come out of the return port.

If the valve is open center, and the PB is plugged or not there, the air will flow out the out port when the lever is in neutral.

See, I knew this was probably a simple question but I've never really studied hydraulics. I'll put some air to it next week when it warms up above the -30 below it is right now.
Thanks guys!

Make sure the hyd. flow coming out of the Bobcat goes to the in side of the log splitter . The out on the log splitter goes to the return line on the bob cat. Now are you going to be in the Bobcat? I have a 743B and am not quite sure how much I trust it to stay put.

Can you show pictures of your log splitter valve?

Need to know if the valve has 2 or three hoses.

Do you have flat face QD's on the log splitter hoses?

This is what the original poster said.

[ I bought a wood splitter homemade 3 point tractor set up .]

Although he could adapt it for upside down cut and move the valve in the cab.
