The mighty Kohler started at -2F this morning.... barely. First, the key switch was FROZEN SOLID! I had to pour some isopropyl alcohol into the switch. Let this be a lesson why key switches should be mounted vertically, not horizontally in open operator station (hint-hint Terry at Power Trac). I gave it a couple shots of starting fluid before I even tried and it went ruummmp, ruummmp, cough, barf. I didn't think it was going to make it. However, after about 4-5 tries, it went POP and fired up. Plowed my driveway and neighbors. We had a brutal blizzard last night. About a foot of snow, some 3' drifts, etc... and today is brutal cold. Had to use starting fluid on the Suburban, too. Stay warm folks! :thumbsup:

Congratulations!!

The marine industry makes lots of waterproof key switches, but it doesn't stop condensation from getting inside and freezing. I'm not sure that a vertical switch would stop condensate.

I'm impressed that the starter was able to turn the pumps.

It was -7 this morning in St. Louis at 8:30 a.m. Both our cars started (mine was outside all night/my wife's was in the garage). So, I am thankful. I assume wind chills are not impactful on cars --- or anything else that does not have a body temperature. It was -32 degrees wind chill this morning.

Cold here too. I had to actually scrap frost off the windows!! Oh and it 39F now. I bet that would feel like a summer breeze to you guys.:laughing:

It's -17 and my can-am ATV started with a little hesitation. The wind chill is -45. I couldn't go more than 8 mph. I had no exposed skin and the col was still too painful.

I ran the 1430 last weekend when it was 7 degrees. The engine started without too much trouble. I added an anti-gel fuel additive. It probably wouldn't have run without that. The hydraulic oil was very thick and I was very sluggish the first 10 minutes. I may get a magnet heater and put it on the hydraulic tank.

It was 62 this morning in LA. BRRRRRRRRRR........ Just bone chilling cold. I had a blanket on top of my sheet when I woke up. At least it got to 76... thought it would never get warm enough for t-shirt and shorts ;-)

Yesterday,here in Northern VA, it was warm enough to melt all the snow and ice from earlier. At 6:00 AM today, it was 0F degrees- windchill at -11. The generator test started easily -- very surprised. Glad that I did not have to start the PT. Definitely working from home today.

It was 74 here..... inside our house, with the furnace AND woodburner going. :laughing: Its -12.5F here this morning. Something went nuts in my electrical system on my 93 Suburban when I started it yesterday to leave work. Volt meter is way down. When I rev the engine it goes up to normal, but not over normal. If I turn on the lights or heater fan full blast, it drops and I have to drastically up the RPMs. It was a fun ride home. I had to keep it in 2nd gear to keep the RPMs up enough to run the heater fan to keep the window defogged. At stop lights I had to toss it in neutral, keep my foot on the gas and turn off the heater fan. Any suggestions other than waiting until spring?
