Tractor Sizing When is big too big? Looking to upgrade 2210 to 2032R...

I've got some steep road banks also. They don't get mowed anymore. With the 2305 I would sit on the up-hill fender and had no problem.

Bummer, that's what I was afraid of. I wish I knew someone close that had a 2720 for me to try out. Even though I'd like to go bigger, I don't want to go backwards in useage. Thanks bigtiller!!

I could probably Google search this question, but I'd rather hear it from an owner/user. What's the physical size difference between the 1026 and the 2720?? Tire size difference?? Track width difference?? Weight difference??

I'm wanting to jump up a size like mfrancis2210. I've not touched a 2720 so don't personally know the size.

Here are some side by side 2720, 1026 pictures.

Nice pair of tractors Chevy and thanks for the comparison pics.

For mowing on slopes though I really like my x749 but the larger 4520 is more appropriate for the larger tasks.

Well,,, it is bigger, taller, faster and more powerful but it sure does ride smoother.

Again, I want your life. "Honey I think you need a bigger tractor. How about a bigger flat screen and a new truck?"
Dude really? You have problems mortals only dream about.

Ha! Oh, I can't imagine what I'll have to agree to in response. I know I've already agreed to a whole new set of dinnerware.

This is an interesting point, too, regarding bigger (taller), and probably worth a separate thread. I have to do the same on a ditch. I wish that the manufacturers would come up with some type of side-to-side maximum angle. Then I could put an inclinometer on and not be trying to hold myself to the seat with clenched cheeks. I end up push mowing a short stretch.

I thought the 2520/2720 did pretty well on hills i have pretty hilly spots on my place as well as field ditches i would mow. its no X720 or anything on handling side sloping because you cant offset the weight as much with your body weight as you can on a lighter lawn tractor. but i never thought the 2520 was tippy by any means it always felt pretty planted. I do miss it for mowing my 425 is great and I can mow faster and in tighter places but the ride quality and the extra power with a 62" deck was nice i also liked sitting a little taller.

Thanks for the pics Chevy. Those are exactly what I wanted to see. I think that's the size jump I wanna make. Don't need the FEL. Would want a 72" deck. Thanks again. I'll save those to drool over til I can make the jump!!!

I don't think that you will have any issues, but I wish that I had asked that question myself. Having had a 770 but wanting a cab I looked at the Deere offerings and was scared away by the price and ended up with a MF 1635 with a cab that I love, the only issue was in the spring and fall my lawn has a couple of wet areas that caused me and my much heavier tractor to leave inch deep tire tracks. In the winter while blowing snow, or the summer brush hoging I'm inside and comfortable, but to get around the problem of the tractor being too big, I had to buy a zero turn. Now I miss my AC while mowing, but the upside is I only take half the time to mow.

Too big? That exists?

Buy as big as you can afford is the rule of thumb.

Oddly, I have to wait until mid-March. We decided to order in a new one versus the one he's had on the lot (that every little snot-nosed kid crawled on and fiddled with). The weird thing is he said that the turf tires are what's holding up the order. He has the loader in stock, and the 62" mower should be here in a week or two. That's all fine though because it's so cold and dry here in OK that I'm not planning to do much/anything until March anyway.

I still haven't broken the news to my old 2210, though, that he's retiring. He'll be sad...

It would really suck if it was Springtime now and you had to wait that long!!!

If I change machines I'll pass my 2210 down to the boys. My first JD was a 140, after 10 years gave it to #1 Son, after 5 years he gave it to #2 Son, he finally sold it to an older Gentleman nearby and he restored it, still mowing. My second was a 322, after 10 years I gave it to #1 Son, after 3 years he gave it to #2 Son, he's still got it and it's still mowing. My third was a 455, I lost it in a fire. Now I've got the 2210, it deserves the same fate I guess. :)
