Chipper Which wood chipper to buy?

I didn't take any pictures of the chipper when it arrived, but it was in the steel crate like your picture, but didn't have the plywood sheets on the sides. Woodmaxx services the chipper by aligning the belts, installing the USA made double-sided knifes and grease all the fittings before it ships (all stated on their web site), then plastic wrapped around the steel crate. You can view their video which shows the assembly procedure when it shows up on the customer's location. Mine arrived exactly as they show in that video.

My Woodmaxx Chipper arrived poly-wrapped in an iron frame. Very little assembly was required. I ended up with extra nuts and bolts, which caused me to worry a little -- but it works well chipping large branches.

It has been shipped, but have not received it yet. Looks like you have to spend couple of hours putting the chute together, but I loved to play with an erector set when I was little. Doesn't sound like anything I can't handle with the tools I have, my wife reading the instructions and a six pack. I

Thanks again for everyone's feedback. New question: I am looking at a used Bear Cat 73454 and a Wally BX42. Wally is about $700 more and will require several hours travel to see. Any opinions? Especially interested in hearing what folks have heard or experienced with the Bear Cat....I already see there is a large fan base on TBN for the Wally's.

Well, I am a shameless Wallenstein fanboy D) so I my answer is predictable, ha!

I know a few guys here that have Bearcats and have been treated well by them. Since the Wallenstein is a good drive away, I would ask for as many detailed pics of the BX42 as you can get from the current owner. Find out how old it is, etc. It might have some of the original 3yr warranty left on it.

I really do think a Wallenstein is worth every penny you pay more to get it. It is the most simple, strong woodchipper I've laid eyes on. :thumbsup:
