I was able to finally get the fireplace set in place today. I'm not sure how we would have done it without the tractor and forks. If I had to guess I think its probably close to 800 to 900 lbs. The installers for the flue showed up but had to reschedule due to some miscommunication between him and the estimator. They were not quite prepared and rescheduled for the week after next.

The foam is what has me scratching my head. Why even take the time to fill with foam? Oh well. It's fixed.
With wood having an R value of 1/inch, it is not uncommon around here to sandwich foam between 2 2x10's to make up the header, rather than filling the gap with more wood. That is a large area to have only an R value of 3.5. Only putting a 2x10 on one side of the "header" is just wrong.

Very busy couple of days. Sheetrock was to be delivered today and started tomorrow. I got word at 5pm yesterday that the crew wanted to go ahead and get started today instead. I was up till midnight wrapping up what was left for electrical, framing up HVAC chases, and cleaning up the 2nd floor so they had an area ready to go. HVAC was in today wrapping up a few of their loose ends, range hood vent, sealing up chases, and also delivered the geo units.. We had plumbers in moving a few lines as well. I also worked on soundproofing rooms today ahead of the sheetrockers. Our shower bases arrived today as we'll just in time for sheetrock.

One more pick of the finished spray foam

Bedrooms and laundry room were sound proofed.

Sheetrock was hung in the north bedroom, office, and bathroom.

We ran a 75,000 btu propane heater long enough to get the house to a good working temp. It's really nice to work without coats and gloves. Going to check the temp in the morning to see how well we hold heat tonight.

Wow,

Do you need mechanical inspections and electrical roughs before sheetrock? Good for you if not, in NJ, need all roughs, including mechanicals, before allowed to sheetrock.

Looks great, Jeremy!!

Let us know how well it kept the house at that temp as well as current outdoor temp.

We are outside of city limits so no inspections required. Everything falls on us to make sure its done right. This morning at 6 the house was 50 degrees. We lost 13 degrees over 12 hours. Temp last night was 32. I'm not sure if that's good or bad since the stairwell to the basement is still open as well as the doorway to the garage side. I'll be interested to see how we do once the basement is brought up to temp and the house is kept at a steady temperature for a few days to warm everything up.

What material was used for the sound proofing the bathroom and laundry walls?

Wow, not having to worry about scheduling inspections is something we can only dream of here in NJ. I believe permits and inspections are important, because there are a lot of devious people who would cut corners to save money, but boy can it be a headache.

13 degrees over 12 hours with an open basement sounds pretty good. Well done.

In NJ, I don't think there are any lands not in some town's limits and therefore, no one is exempt. As fellow NJ'er emanaresi said, we can only dream of your situation. And your home too. :)

Don't be concerned with the 13deg overnight - your entire structure was at a lower temp when you heated the air to 63deg - overnight much of the air temp was lowered bringing your "mass" up in temp.
We find our house to drop 1-3deg over 24hrs w/o heat when it is very cold outside and no sunlight. When we get the sunlight our great room will rise ~ 9deg during the day but the overnight temp only rises 1-2deg (Thermal mass is your friend, but it takes awhile and a lot of BTU's to get it to the steady state you desire).
This said if you have significant air leakage your air will get cold much faster and you will feel it.
Also in your case I suspect you will see a bit more temp swing due to thermal bridging of the wall studs, but if you got all the air leaks controlled this probably won't be significant in your climate zone

Here I did require inspections (in county) but several were as simple as calling the county and when they asked if it was "ok" for me my affirmative answer satis:eek:fied the inspector
