Gents: I'm new to the forum, have been looking at cab tractors and have decided that the best buy is an LS XR4040HC, maybe not as many features as the JD, Kubota or NH cab tractors, but certainly more standard features for a whole lot less $$. Anybody have any experience with the LS XR series in any horsepower? Thanks!!

I purchased the xr4046HC and really love it. I did ad the third remote for a grapple. I can pick up 2000 lb. rocks, mow, just about anything. The heating and A/c are really nice and the windows open so it is really comfortable. I am so glad I got the Hydro model, it is perfect for loader work, and everything for that matter. it is a pure pleasure to operate and now that I have some hours on it, everything is so ergonomic i don't have to reach for anything. It comes with a nice lighting setup so operating at night is easy. if you have anymore questions feel free to ask, I didn't have anyone to ask when i got mine and was really not sure. 20140117_135817.jpg

Many thanks for the reply! I have really looked at the JD and Kubota cab tractors both new and used here, the new ones are about $14k more than this XR4040 and the used ones are the same price as the new LS without a warranty and most of them looks like the servicing was questionable. There are only two LS dealers in the state, both about 75 miles away from me, the easiest one to get to is really making me a great deal and taking two old farm trucks in trade and including a huge cash discount, rear lights, rear wiper, etc. My only concern is for parts and service since he is so far away and he has a very small operation, he has several open floor units in stock and XR cab tractors, two 37's and the one 40, I would have liked to drive the 46 hp, but he is telling me that he needs to move some tractors before he can order more, I'm sure he has reached his floor plan limit with the ones in he has in stock and I have been looking at these since early November. I have had several talks with the LS rep, seems like a great guy, but has a huge territory and doesn't know when he is going to get more dealers in Colorado. The local JD and Kubota dealers are really talking the Korean tractors down because of parts availability, the closest NH dealer doesn't even know that the 40 hp model he has on his showroom floor is an LS made tractor! He was shocked that I could buy the same tractor with the cab/loader cheaper than he could sell me the open station NH without a loader! I work for a Korean car company, they are great, the quality is equal to or better than the competitors, if the LS brand is close to that same scenario, JD and Kubota better be looking in their mirror if LS gets some dealers close to the big guys!

They probably talk them down for "parts availability" because they need to grasp for straws to make their own lines sound more appealing ... let's face it, when the competing product is just as good but sells for substantially less, you need to help your own justify the extra costs of what you sell.

Parts for LS are no harder to get that parts for a Kubota or JD. No one and I mean no one keeps parts in stock nowdays other than oil and filters and a few minor cost items. I recently broke the hydraulic oil filter housing on my Kubota which is right under the belly of the tractor, exposed to all kinds of damaging things that one might run over. I would think this would be a frequent part to be replaced on a CUT but they had to order it just like most other places. Even small LS dealers can get you any part in about 3 days from central distribution centers and they can have them drop shipped directly to your house. When I bought my LS, I had the dealer put together a care package of all the filters needed for service, 2 of everything except the air filter which I only got one of. That way I had a spare for everything and could reorder by phone if needing more.
In todays world (my world at least) 75 miles is not that far to go for a tractor. Heck my nearest airport if further than my tractor dealer. If you do your own tractor trailering, once you are loaded and tied down, an hour or so drive isn't that far, assuming that you ever need to take your tractor in for service. I took mine in once and all the items could have been fixed by me at my farm, but since the 2 year bumper to bumper warranty was about to run out, I wanted them to check it over. They replaced the seat with a new style support and replaced the underbelly drawbar support completely with a newly designed one. I had broken the belly mount, lost the pin and they replace it and the drawbar swing support which wasn't damaged but was a new design. The drawbar broke when I was attempting to pull a fully loaded dump truck out of the mud and the tractor started humping and surging, before I could push in the clutch, it broke the pin housing. A small tack weld broke on the seat and I fixed it by rewelding the location which made it better than new, but they replaced the mount anyway with a newly redesigned one. I have had any other problems. Almost forgot, the fuel tank started leaking due to a bad designed skid plate that was mounted to the tank (plastic). I got a brand new tank, with re-designed skid mounting. I still have it in my shop waiting for my JBWeld fix to fail. It has been over 2year and still holding. I built my own skid mount to totally protect the tank with steel plate front to back so the redesign is still in the box with the new tank.
All in all, I think they are very well built tractors. LS design engineers seem to work flawlessly to correct problems when owners report an issue which I admire. Some manufacturers(Kubota for one) don't correct any flaw no matter how many people report an issue. My tractor was the first year marketed in USA and did have a few flaws which were quickly re designed and furnished without cost. I like that in a tractor company and the fact that LS is much cheaper and more ergonomic than some of the others is just icing on the cake.

Gary: that's great news and I appreciate your candor about the LS product. I have been the district mgr for Hyundai for almost 24 years, I received a lot of trash talk from friends and other manuf reps in the early years, interesting to know that a lot of them have called me the last few years to see if they could get a deal on a new car or a job!! The fact that Hyundai had or still has something to do with LS is also very appealing to me as well. I'm long past where some of my neighbors ego is about that they have to have a green tractor and a Ford in the garage, the towing rig is a dodge diesel and the tractor on the small acreage is an older mfwd NH. The purchase of this 40 horse LS is probably my last tractor, it will eventually end up at my 60 acre farm for my daughter and son in law to replace the old Ford 3000 ( which I have owned for over 30 years and will probably outlast me!!). The LS dealer has a small store, is very friendly, accommodating and seems to have a great reputation and has made me more than a generous deal on this unit, everything has been so smooth and easy that I am looking for the negative, especially after trying to deal with the name brand dealers around here and the $14k to $16k higher prices that they are quoting me to privileged to own one of their green, orange or even blue machines(that they don't even know that it is made by LS!). Thanks again for the positive comments!! Ron

TSO: sorry I missed your post! I agree with your comment that they talk down the tractors that they don't sell and obviously are starting to worry about! Sure the green and orange ones have some fancy stuff like load match, high/low speeds on the hydro etc, but quite frankly, I don't need all of that and is just something else to worry about after the warranty expires! I am really having a hard time deciding between the XR3037(which is almost the same specs as the JD 3520) or the XR4040 (which is almost identical to the Kubota L4060 specs). For the extra $2000 that I have been quoted, the XR4040 will end up in the shop!
