Look what I found in my woods

Got this last Friday. spent all weekend in the woods trying her out.

the HST was nice. found myself reaching for the shifter all of the time when going into reverse. got some old habits to get rid of. love the convenience of the HST, but kept trying to remember what the steps were to, when putting this in reverse. Like there was some step that was missing.

found that I'm very rusty working with a back hoe. need to spend a day or so just digging and making a mess. just to get used to running one again and get the coordination needed to operate this smoothly.
I wonder if it is set up like the Kubota dealer did when he messed with mine once. I asked them to check the pump pressures and they re-routed the control hoses, mixed them up so they functioned differently. It took me 2 days to finally figure out how to put it back like it was. I bought mine used and the previous owner had rerouted the controls so they mimicked his Case controls. They "fixed it" supposedly like Kubota configures so I had to push one lever and pull on the other to get it to retract the boom and dipper. I couldn't operate it at all that way but I did finally figure out how to put it back the way it was. That could be your problem if you have been operating a different system. I know there are 2 different control configurations, SAE and ISO and different companies set up per one or the other and someone used to lets say ISO gets really confused trying to use the other. I think Cat uses one type and I think JD uses the other type. Some larger excavators have a switch to flip so you can go either way. It seems to be like the old Betamax vs VCR tape systems, but thankfully one of those finally won out. It doesn't seem like the backhoe operation will win out one over the other though. If everything seems strange, take a look at fixing the controls to match what you muscle memory is used to.

Is the canopy plastic?

The top red part is some sort of rotomolded HDPE, under that there is steel frame. This allows the canopy to shrug off any minor event.
The only comment I have about it is that the presents of the canopy causes an echo from the engine noise. Makes it a little louder.

The controls all work as indicated by the decals. So I don't think that the hydraulics are the problem.
Iv never used a backhoe before. But I do have some experience in trackhoe/excavators. And as how I was reminded that the last time used a trackhoe was a number of years ago, so the bulk of my experience is something like 15 years ago.

These are pictures of my youngest son, climbing on the last trackhoe, and this tractor.

enjoy your new tractor.

Wow, I really like the tractor, the way it's set up and how it looks. Excellent choice.

On the loud canopy from reflected sound, how about a little sound deadening material on the inside of the roof between the frame? I've seen it work before.

I like that cross bar under the front of the canopy but don't know as I would like the front legs going down to the front if they are in your line of vision to the work in front of you. Always a compromise between ease of use and safety/durability I suppose. I could always learn to not slap poles down across the top of the tractor to begin with.

It seems like your son approves of your choice. If taken care of, the tractor will last your lifetime and his too.

Thanks. I'm really appreciating this. Need to get a grapple and boxblade next. But that will have to wait for a bit

There is some sound deadening foam around the metal part of the roof. I assume that it helps somewhat. However not much can be done near the edges, and the roof part is hollow (which has other advantages)

So this is not a deal breaker, but something which I was noticing that was different from before.
