Just completed an1100 mile trip with ~16000 pounds in tow. This rig performed great. The trailer is a dream. What really stood out is the star performance hitch I installed before the trip. It did away with all the bucking and sometimes unpleasantries of towing a gooseneck. I highly recommend Gator made and the Star hitch.

i guess i dont know what your referring to bucking and unpleasantries with gooseneck. I've hauled several trailers over the years including my newer 30' gooseneck horse trailer and i forget i have it on the truck. I think goosenecks eliminate all the issues associated with bumper pulls.

what exactly does this hitch do over the basic hitch?

In the past when I would have a very agressive stop, the trailer would somtimes buck the back of the truck. As if the hitch was alternatlly lifting and then pushing down on the truck. The heavier the load was the worse the problem. This hitch eliminated all of this. Also when hitting bumbs in the road, especially at bridges, the trailer pulled great with no jerking or bucking. The hitch allows the trailer to shift slightly forward and aft. They have a video on their web site. Star Performance Hitch.

Sounds like you needed more tongue weight...

I have tried loading trailers every kind of way. Have even gone to local scales to evenlly and properly load my trailers. All I'm trying to do is let other TBNers know what has worked for me. If you have ever had an equipment trailer buck from time to time, no matter how you loaded it, you will love the Star Hitch.

Nice setup. 1100 miles is a long way, any pictures of it loaded up?
