2001 Jinma 220
hello im new to the tractor world and i just purchased a jinma 220 diesel tractor well i seem to have a little issue with the radiator, i can fill it up with fluid and while the cap is off it seems to drain from what appears to be the bottom center of the radiator as soon as i put the cap on it stops...due to i guess a vaccum seal ...ok it snowed here the other day and when i went to check on the tractor first lol the battery was dead solved that problem but i started to notice green fluid on the ground beneath the radiator and what seems to be underneath the engine of the motor and even saw a few drips from what appears to be right under the gas tank lol....any help would be great or any ideas on where to start would be even better im going to tool around with it tomorow

You need to find out where the leak is coming from. Get some towels, dry it off, and see if you can see where it's coming from. More common than the radiator leaking is either a loose hose, a cracked hose, or the water pump itself leaking.

I have to warn you that Jinmas are very prone to head gasket failure. The engines are generally very tough, but if run low on coolant the head gasket can fail in a matter of minutes. They will run with the head gasket leaking, but it leads to coolant and engine oil mixing, which can lead to extensive engine damage if not corrected. It seems about every two months or so we get someone showing up here with a variation of the same story: I just bought a Jinma, it starts and runs, but there's a little problem... Just about always it's a blown head gasket.

The good news is the engines are easy to work on, the head gasket can be changed with just common hand tools.

So: find out where the coolant is leaking. Until you do, don't allow it to get too hot.

Hey quicksandfarmer Ty for the quick response, I am a little concerned about that after reading through the forums, I have been a visitor here since I got the tractor about a month ago. I purchased it for $1400 and gave the guy $200 for delivery lol I thought it was a jam up deal, even with the few issues I am having I still think I got a good deal..ok when he delivered the tractor to me on a flat bed before we took the tractor off the truck I was smart enough to look underneath it to see if there was any liquid dripping it was a 4 hour ride for the guy to get here so I would think if it was leaking then I would have seen some fresh wet spots on the wood but there was nothing at all..so was like **** yeah I got me a tractor lol. Do you know if it's a pain in the *** to get the radiator off, like I said I'm almost dangerous with hand tools and to top that off I have ADHD...lol great combination...I'm not a complete idiot I do have basic skills to disassemble and put back together but more less just curious on if it's a pain......Oh yeah I forgot to mention the guy I got it from put a small second radiator on it and tied it into the main radiator just for bush hogging he has the power ran to a switch for easy turn on and off for the fan he said he only used it when bush hogging he said it really keeps the temp down around 80 the entire time he's running it....don't know if he is full of it or not but none the less in theory it's a good idea

I have a Jinma 354, which may not be the same, but on mine it's not difficult. There is a threaded rod at the top of the radiator that attaches to the engine block and two studs on the bottom of the radiator that go through rubber bushings and then through holes in the frame and are held to the frame with washers and 16mm nuts. The radiator hoses attach with regular hose clamps. Drain the coolant first, there is a drain on the bottom of the radiator and one on the engine block. On mine you want to tilt the hood back any time you're working in the engine compartment, which means unbolting the struts which hold the hood up and tilting it back against the steering wheel.

I would try to find where the leak is before taking anything apart.

The second radiator is interesting, a lot of people have problems with overheating when bush hogging, it throws up chaff which clogs the radiator. I could see that modification as a source for leaks.

Here's a diagram of my engine. It's part #35 in the diagram:

Your engine may be different.
Here is a close-up picture of the drain valve:

Turning the flat piece with the hole in it 90 degrees in either direction opens it. On mine there is a wire handle attached to the hole so you can open it without sticking your hand in. My owner's manual recommends filling the tractor before each use (with "clean river water") and draining it when you shut it down. I use antifreeze instead.

I'm guessing you have the Y380 engine. If so, this link will actually serve you better. Other than a 80mm cylinder bore (vice 85mm), they're the same engine. If you have the two cylinder, use this one.

My suggestion is to get you some manuels. They arn't the best but they will help to find things on the tractor. After you work with it for a while the books make more sense. That radiator is not hard to pull and a head gasket job is also something you can do. Good luck with your new tractor. There really is a lot of good help on this site. Pat
