I know I'm younger than most of you guys but I remember when I was always guaranteed to be the youngest guy every job site. Ran my first multi million dollar project when I was 21, and I always had to here crap from older guys who worked for me, or subs. Somewhere over the past 5 years or so I'm not the youngest guy on a site anymore.

What I wanna know is how many 75-85 year olds are still making their own firewood. I knew one guy who was 82 years old and split his firewood with a splitting maul. This guy could get into a fight with a 40 year old and win.

I'm 78 and still making fence posts and rail fencing. Have 30 logs ready as soon as the temp gets above 50 for a few days.
Also thought I and Bird was the same age he must of quit counting.

Just wait till you hit 50, God-willing, and see the other side of the fence. Where the guys your age tell you that you don't know anything, then go out & shoot themselves in the foot! Sure would be nice if there could be some mutual respect, no?

Well, construction is changing it seems. Of the last 3 or 4 projects (roads, water/sewer lines) 2 of the superintendents have been younger than me. Never had a problem with the old farts except when they refused to take directions from me only because of my age. "Yeah yeah, I'm 30 years younger than you, but I know what I'm doing" kinda thing.

As a side note, work for a local city utility company and they tell us that one in three of the employees will be retiring in the next three years. So there guaranteed to get some fresh blood. Just hope there not all fresh out of school engineers....

Edit: guess there should be a smiley next to "old farts"
