Pallets in fields

NO WAY, it's dark out there, very dark.

I'll probably delete the next paragraph in a few minutes because just writing about it gives me the shivers.

. . .

You did have a bag over your head to assure a "blind" test, right? That's the idea -- it's supposed to be dark! Rookies.:mur:

BTW, I saw the part you deleted. Maybe we should chug on over to mamby pamby land where maybe we can find some self confidence for you, you jack wagon!

Wow, you guys up North must be snowed in and the only thing keeping you sane is the pallet thread.

Day 2 no change, however the dog is barking out in pallet field as I type.

Your efforts are deeply appreciated.

To advance your investigations, please equip Whipper with an infrared dog cam and infra-sound recorder. Since no one has reported seeing or hearing truly sentient life forms (discounting the possibility of the Paladin wannabe) in proximity to the pallets, we must examine the light spectra which are not visible to the human eye and the sound frequencies not detected by the human ear. We must extend our five senses to the utmost.

I include a helpful graphic to aid your sensory memory:

That, my friend, is no way to treat a fellow member of the scientific community... What are you trying to hide by deriding fellow investigators? The plot thickens...

That wasn't me that posted that -- it was Gunny.;) He practices "tough love."

OPPS I forgot about the bag, my bad. How can I forget the thing in the deleted paragraph. What would do something like that? We need to call it the terror protection bag so others are warned!

Gentlemen (and any Ladies in this astute discussion), I've had somewhat of an epiphany!

True, the pallet placement and the ancillary proposals as to their purpose have focused our quest, but have we 'had the blinkers on'. Have we not been 'seeing the forest for the trees'?

What if it's not the pallets, per se, but the materials inherent! What if the major factor is the nails used to construct the artifact?

I propose this from personal experience whilst constructing a hay-ring from 6 pallets. During the process I had to de-construct (pull apart with a crow-bar) the pallets that I was going to utilise in order to re-construct them in the desired configuration. In doing so, I discovered an inordinate number of nails had been employed by the 'manufacturer' (and, at times, repair-person) to hold the pallets together. Many were in an 'L' shape, too!

So, are the number of nails a significant factor in our calculations. Is the periodic composition of the nails, and their configuration/placement the underlying answer to our quandary? How important are the 'L' shaped (I'll call them "bent") nails?

I humbly submit this for Peer Review.

Wagtail, yes back in post #229 I suggested that we look at the materials, construction, and geometry of said pallets. To date, I don't believe we have even established the pallets are constructed of wood. Likely they are... but we all know what can happen when we assume things as a given.

The Texas pallets have fallen - like the Alamo. Is this a normal progression or a failed experiment? We did have 40mph winds but I can't assume anything.

Did they fall like dominoes or fold into themselves as in a 'stacking' position?
