Went to put the plow and chains on her and as I was moving it around she was struggling. Narrowed it down to the left rear dragging.

Crawled under it to check things out. Linkage was good but the lever on the rear was not returning. It was very stiff but moved with some light tapping with a hammer. Sprayed it down with some penetrant and tested it, all good. Well, as long as I don't hit the brake.

I went about plowing and everything is fine because I only use the brakes for parking. It's been too cold to mess with it right now.

Anyone else ever have this problem? I'm hoping I don't have to go in too deep. I am hoping it's just tight from non use. Thanks.

This is/was a common problem with the 4x00 and 4x10 machines. The shaft gets stuck where is goes through the axle housing becasue of the dis-similar metals there, lubricating with Fluid Film a great way to prevent it in the future. The return springs were also known to break easily, something to keep an eye out for.

Thanks Kenny. The springs were ok, but at 10 years old I may just replace them while I am trying to free the shaft.

Putting a little lube is part of my regular maintence plan on my 4310.

use a heavier spring not to much though if you have a thin weir wheel get in there and clean best you can if you can remove roll pins and arms even better load up with neverseez you should be ok for a long time. lots of guys lube and work arms back an forth works for awhile but neverseeze all parts that move or are threaded works very well.

Oh yeah. Anti seize is what will go on it if I have to pull it down. Hoping to just work it loose and put the fluid film on it.
