Great story Dan. I grew up in that type of environment. And by the Graces of God, still live in that environment. Last Summer I pumped my truck full of Diesel at the local station, went in to pay (yes, don't hafta pay upfront here), and realized I'd left my wallet at home. They said the same thing, pay next time you are in. Was 3 miles back to my house. I felt so embarrassed I drove straight home, got my wallet, drove back to the station and paid them. God Bless the diminishing parts of America where that portion of humanity is still alive and well.
Richard and Dan, times sure have changed, some of it a difference in people and some by mandates or pure economics. I sure miss it and our little town is dying.
After they "loaned" me the parts, I too went home, got my wallet and went back to pay for the parts. No way did I want to forget and then be That Guy.:laughing::laughing::laughing:
Our little town is about to explode growth wise. A large development is about to start up, in spite of some local opposition from a minority of people, and the new development will double the county's population. I do not want the growth but growth is going to occur one way or another. The new development is being done by a company who does things right. The nay sayers do not want the growth but without growth the town, like so many other small towns, will die.
This development is going to be so large though that we might sell our land and house to move elsewhere. Not what I want to do but the town currently has about 3,000 people and the new development will add 55,000 over a decade or two!

Not sure if we want to be here with that many people. The small town will be a small city...
Soooo, we do not really want this large of growth, so close, so soon but if life hands you a lemon, make lemonade. The lemonade in this case is that the value of our land will sky rocket so we might be able to sell off some of the land earlier than planned and retire.

I ain't holding my breath but it is possible. If it does happen, we might be getting a 40-46 foot passage maker boat and go cruising. The boat will have a JD engine of course.:laughing::laughing:
I have been reading up on boats lately, not so much because of the growth but for other reasons, and I have been surprised at how many boats use JD engines.
Later,
Dan
