It took me several days to figure this out

The timer knob on the clothes drier broke and we had to resort to locking pliers to turn the D stem. I started a search locate the model of the dryer so I could order another knob. Luckily, I found the word SIGNAL at the top left hand corner of the drier and was all set to order a timer knob for a GE SIGNAL drier when I realized, this knob turns on the "signal" that the load is dry. I finally got the model number and located a cheap replacement on-line but shipping and handling was much more than the cost of the knob. Being stingy, I tried to locate a knob on an old appliance. With everything going digital these days, success eluded me. Then, I remembered the signal knob right on the drier. We never use it and it fit the stem on the timer.
l probably shouldn't tell about the fridge that makes heavy and light ice.

We just bought a new washer/dryer set. They only have one knob each, to set the type of load you have. The rest is buttons, cute little digital ditties and das blinkenlights.

It was an old TV that was setting around for some forgotten reason.

Ours don't have knobs! all push button. Goes out ,likely a whole PC board to replace.

Which is exactly why I purposely purchase analog appliances. If one function of the digital printed circuit board (PCB) goes wrong then the entire board needs to be replaced (in this throw-away society we live in) and that costs a lot of money and usually needs to be installed by a manufacturer certified 'professional' for warranty purposes.

An analog switch is a matter of swapping it out yourself as the wires are on stake-on posts. Just make a drawing (wiring diagram) of where the coloured wires go to on the old switch, then follow it when hooking up the new.

I got so tired of fixing my old knob and dial washers that I went out and bought two all digital ones. I have never had an issue with the digital ones, ever. It has been about 6 years and I was fixing the old ones every year it seemed. I think I had Sears worst washers they ever made. I now have LGs.

Tom, that is what we have also, running on 6 years right now for the set. Last summer I thought I had to replace the board in the washer, cost just under $100, then found out it was a blown fuse, I had to specialty order them, 10 pack at $11.:laughing:
