Aluminum rim sticking to hub...any solutions?

When we rig up our log trucks we put one layer of duct tape between and aluminum parts contacting steel it works like a charm.

When I tried to remove mine from my dodge they were stuck. I took a sledge hammer to mine(from the back side). I lubed mine with anti seize B-4 putting them back on

Ask any BMW technician, Anti-seize is the solution and preventative. I can't count the number of times I had to use a sledge hammer to get a wheel free due to corrosion of the dissimilar metals at the hub. Having the luxury of a lift makes this a bit easier and safer. Never attempt this without safety stands. Use a 2x4 across the inside of the wheel (bead to bead) and hit it as hard as you can. The wood will break before damaging the wheel and it gives you a wider 'target' to hit. Works every time.

Many times I have had to sit in front of the tire and give it the old duel foot kick to break them free, even needed a sledge every now and then. The loose lug nuts work well. Now anti seize or grease are applied every rotation.

I use high temp brake grease. Like anti-seize, you need to make sure you don't get any on the brakes or the lugs/studs. Do this pretty much every time you take off and put on wheels, and it will save you tons of grief in the long run. Grease is cheaper, in general and goes a long way. Just a dab on a finger tip (rubber glove) in a few spots and rub it around. The first time you may need to clean up the surface with a wire wheel or some emery cloth. After that, you should be good. Make sure to get the mating face of the brake drum/disc and the hub, as most modern wheels are hub-centric, so that can hang them up too.

I've seen the duct-tape trick use many times, once the wheel has been removed and to prevent it sticking again, could a small slit be cut into the edge of the hole, (1/4 inch deep), this would give a place to shoot some penetrating oil into, of-course have the slit on topside.. let it sit for 5 minutes and it might be easier to pull of,

It must be salt water or road salt that is corroding your rims. I have never had any issues with this on any of my vehicles (2003, 2007) but I don't drive in salt water and no road salt used here. I had a Jeep while in Canada and never had a problem with those aluminum wheels sticking either. I would agree that a light coating of never-seize or grease would help to keep the oxidation from causing problems if you have them.

One way to break it free is to get all lug nuts loose but only just

Had to do that with my Ranger, it took a good 3 km for it to break free and that was whipping the wheel back and forth. Like was said, NeverSieze is your friend....Mike

Torque is very critical aluminum rims also. Once a month I see a vehicle sitting along the side of the interstate with the wheel missing and many times all the studs broken off. Your manual will state a torque limit for your wheels I always re torque after 250 miles.
