Aluminum rim sticking to hub...any solutions?

I think lug nut torque is a different subject/issue than a wheel that wont separate from the hub. No?

can always use torque limited impact extensions. :)

or precision calibrated air guns. :) ( actually ... I've worked on assy lines that used precision impacts and or linear guns that counted rotations etc...

Soundguy...every time I read about those "torque limited impact extensions" I recall an incident that happened to me back in '95....I was buying a set of American Racing Equipment aftermarket rims and new BFG radials at a tire shop I trusted, and the tech who installed the new rims got careless and cut grooves into the brand new ($150 each) rims by using an air wrench with those "torque limited" sockets. When I picked the truck up I saw the damage and asked the manager of the store to show me what they used for installing the lug nuts, and he did that. Then I showed him the manual for my new rims, which clearly stated "DO NOT USE AN IMPACT WRENCH ON THESE WHEELS" and he replaced the damaged ones with a new set, plus valve stems, plus mounting and balancing, etc. Pretty expensive lesson...I couldn't believe anybody would be so careless.

sure it is a different subject.. but in post #20 DP mentioned an 'also' about torque being important as a side issue.

How many times do you want the crowd to cheer "anti seize" :D

I use never seize on everything except wheel nuts/lug nuts. I carry a 1/2" drive torque wrench with me all the time along with a 6" extension and a 3/4" deep socket. About 4 times a year I recheck the torque and after a 5 wheel rotate.

I have this issue with my car. One way to break it free is to get all lug nuts loose but only just. Then drive it for a very short distance. If it's a front tire, turn the wheels. Just don't try going very far. :)

That "redneck" style fix actually works pretty slick, and in my opinion, if done right, when needed, can be easier and less dangerous than other methods. If you're good( and lucky), just setting the vehicle back down at a slight angle will do it without driving. Just have to be sure you don't allow the nuts out further than the protrusion of the inner centering ring of the hub.
