I haven't seen pizza, another convenience food, mentioned in this thread.

I just learned that:

USDA's Agricultural Research Service (ARS) today released a new report on the role of pizza in American diets. ARS researcher Donna Rhodes and colleagues found that an astonishing 13% of the U.S. population consumed pizza on any given day, based on the most recent years of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

For this large population -- more than 1 out of 8 Americans -- who consumed pizza in a particular day:

Pizza accounted for 25% (among kids) and 29% (among adults) of daily food energy intake. More than a quarter of all calorie intake was pizza.
Pizza accounted for 33% (among kids) and 39% (among adults) of daily saturated fat intake. Compared with foods in general, pizza is much heavier in saturated fat.
Pizza accounted for 33% (among kids) and 38% (among adults) of sodium intake. Compared with foods in general, pizza is much heavier in sodium.

It's so nice to be a guinea pig.

Subway to remove chemical from bread - CNN.com

Grocery store breads and restaurant breads also contain this chemical. Other major fast food chains [besides SubWay] have products with the ingredient too, including McDonald's, Starbucks and Arby's.

McDonald's has also responded to concerns about the chemical with regard to its McRib sandwich buns, but continues to use the chemical in that product.

McDonald's notes on its website that a "variation of Azodicarbonamide has commercial uses and is used in the production of some foamed plastics, like exercise mats. But this shouldn't be confused with the food-grade variation of this ingredient."

Azodicarbonamide is not legally allowed to be used as a dough improver in the European Union, according to the European Food Safety Authority. It is also banned in Australia.

Pizza can vary a lot. If you make your own with whole-grain crust, use no-salt tomato sauce as a sauce base, don't load it up with fatty meats, etc., it can be healthy in moderation. Unfortunately, that not a description of real-world pizza consumption.

kraft makes a fat free cheese ( free / not low fat. ) that and the regular low sodium tomator sauce or paste, plenty of vegi's like onion, bell peper, mushroom.. etc.. and then meat like chix breast. use the whole wheat crust, or the whole grain flatbreads, and you are pretty close to down right healthy eating...

I make these as well as chicken queso's using whole wheat or multi grain wraps, spinach and chix breast or turkey breast and FF cheese...

The Kraft cheese does have fat plus a bunch of other junk - you have to read the ingredients list - they are allowed to lie on the front label. Most wraps also have fat. It is really hard to find a (processed) fat free item in the store. Sometime I wonder if they should just leave in the sugar (diet drinks) and fat and stop adding strange chemicals.

Ingredients: WHEY, SKIM MILK, MILK PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, WATER, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF SODIUM PHOSPHATE, DRIED CORN SYRUP, SALT, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, LACTIC ACID, SODIUM CITRATE, MILKFAT*, SORBIC ACID AS A PRESERVATIVE, ARTIFICIAL COLOR, CARRAGEENAN, CELLULOSE GUM, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR*, SODIUM TRIPOLYPHOSPHATE, CITRIC ACID, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, DISODIUM INOSINATE, MILK*, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, APOCAROTENAL (COLOR), ANNATTO (COLOR), ENZYMES, CHEESE CULTURE. *TRIVIAL SOURCE OF FAT.

to be fair i believe you have glossed over some important issues..

for instance. the last line shows the asterisk items as a 'trivial source of fat'

Nonfat Cheddar Cheese (Pasteurized Skim Milk And Milk**, Salt, Yeast*, Cheese Culture, Artificial Color, Natural Flavor*, Enzymes, Vitamin A Palmitate); Potato Starch, Cellulose Powder And Calcium Sulfate Added to Prevent Caking; Natamycin (A Natural Mold Inhibitor). *Ingredient Not In Regular Cheddar Cheese. **Trivial Source of Fat. Contains: Milk.

also. looking at the official nutrition lable, there are 0 callories from fat per serving. You get about 9-10 calories per fat gram.. meaning there is less than 1/9 gram or so of fat per serving.

I'd call that a safe' trivial' and not a lie.

not sure if the following table will post:

if they are 'lieing' on that label. I'd say the company would already be closed....

as to the wrap or flatbread having some fat. sure. .. but low. like 1-3 grams.

the rda is 60 grams on a 2k cal diet.

when i had some health problems a few years back. I found i could easily go thru a day and come in at 10-15 fat grams if i tried.

same with chol. easy to avoid if you try. and yes. it means prepairing your own food and paying a lil more many times. I also notice sometimes store brand alternatives to name brand products are not always equal in the calorie department. have to watch that.
