Jd5203,

You have enough HP to add a PTO pump and not use your tractor hyd..

This pump will provide 21 GPM @ 2,000 PSI & 32.1 Hp input.

9.9 CU IN PRINCE HC-PTO-1AC PTO PUMP CI 540 RPM

Thanks for that, this I would only have to get a tank and temp gauge, I would have to get a different mone because the mower has a minimum of 2500 psi, but this gets me in a cheaper ballpark.

Knowing which cutter exactly you are thinking about may help.

FWIW, I have looked at low flow brush cutters and several are rated for 15-25gpm. Perhaps the number you saw was max GPM?

It is a us qa60 brush cutter. Will cut up to a 10" tree. I looked on there website and it said 20-40 gpm.

hope you have a cab and screens on it, too much brush coming back at you

Yes I have a cab on the tractor, I will most likely put screens on it. Trust me, if I didn't I wouldn't even think of doing it. I get enough brush hitting me in the back of the head now from the bush hog.

Jd5203:

I did something similar with a Kubota L4330, though on a much smaller scale than you are proposing. To get the full hydraulic flow you will have to keep the engine at high rpm. Will your tractor go slow enough at that rpm to ease the cutter into the larger trees? My Kubota has a hydrostatic transmission so I can creep very slowly, and I still have to be careful.

I find that even being careful, the load of cutting often trips the pressure relief valve, which heats up the hydraulic fluid quite a bit. Your large tractor may have enough hydraulic fluid cooling capacity to handle the heat, but mine did not. I am now using a PTO driven pump and separate reservoir.

Send us pictures of what you do.

I think that may be better so that the pump on the tractor is not getting used all the time. I have the power reverser so I know I can go slow enough. Also I can always clutch to a stop in the big stuff. Thanks for the insight.

Jd5203,

Not true on the pressure.

The rated pressure is the max pressure recommend by the manufacturer of the motor.

Relief valves can be set to protect a hyd component.

There is no pressure until the hyd fluid meets a resistance whether from a cyl or a hyd motor.

If the hyd motor is only cutting light grass, it might be only 1800 psi. and if at idle cutting no grass it might be about 200 to 500 psi.

Pressure is developed when the hyd is doing work.

This is the brush cutter requirement.

Aux. Hyd. Flow Required 20 GPM — 45 GPM

You are below min with 16 GPM, and that will affect the blade tip speed which is necessary for med to heavy cuts.

What is is this based on?

What type machine?

You also may want to look at a different cutter. I can't seem to find the link right now, but at least one of the companies I looked at said they will set up the unit to closely match your gpm and pressure.

Here is how I mounted my PTO pump and reservoir.

What I am wondering is how big of a tree it will cut with 16 gpm. It seems to me that it takes 2 gpm to cut 1 inch, so if you take 4gpm off, that would mean it should cut a 8 inch tree is that right.

It will cut just about any tree it can fit in the front cut out, depending on the blade length sticking past the lip of the mower deck. I have seen some cutters that the deck will shift back exposing more blade.

The specs say it can cut 8 in tree/shrub.

At 16 GPM, you will just cut a lot slower that the 20 to 45 GPM advertised, because the GPM determines the blade tip speed.

The motor will have the same torque no matter the GPM's.

If you are going with this machine, just go slower and you should be able to cut 8 in trees.

Here is a 3pt Brown tree cutter. He probably has the HP and the attachment is matched with the tractor, also notice the speed of cut when things are matched up. He is cutting brush and trees.
