Why not get one that's for a low flow machine? I'm afraid you will be disappointed in the performance of the cutter with such a difference between the required flow and the flow you have on your tractor

I too think that you will be dissapointed. I have an "factory made" rotary mower for my skid steer. It produces 28gpm on the low flow side, (the mower is low flow) It is great for brush and some smaller trees up to 2"-3" but the 8" tree is dreaming for what mower and available hyd. you are describing. As someone else mentioned, you will also have poor results with a "gear" transmission. For heavy brush (tall woody) I need to lower it slowly, back up then usually repeat. Sorry to poo on your parade, I'd just like to save you some $$ and time. Check over in the land clearing section (tbn) for what type of machinery it takes to this work.:thumbsup:

Just to let you all know, I will not be taking on an 8" tree with it, the reason for the knowledge is because the mower is brand new and the guy only wants $5900 for it. It hasn't been used very much. Here are some pics, you can tell its worth the buy.

It will cut just about any tree it can fit in the front cut out, depending on the blade length sticking past the lip of the mower deck. I have seen some cutters that the deck will shift back exposing more blade.

The specs say it can cut 8 in tree/shrub.

At 16 GPM, you will just cut a lot slower that the 20 to 45 GPM advertised, because the GPM determines the blade tip speed.

The motor will have the same torque no matter the GPM's.

If you are going with this machine, just go slower and you should be able to cut 8 in trees.

Here is a 3pt Brown tree cutter. He probably has the HP and the attachment is matched with the tractor, also notice the speed of cut when things are matched up. He is cutting brush and trees.

That's what I was thinking, because the slower you go into the tree, the less it has to power through.

Does your tractor have a case drain ? If not you will need to add one or you risk damage to the motor on the cutter

The mower has a valve to stop if it is overstuffed to let fluid circulate through it.

I'm not familiar with that concept how does it work? I am familiar with what happens when the case drain isn't hooked up, best case blow the gaskets out of the motor, worst case, breaks the case of the motor open

It probably can cut 8 in brush all day, but if the front does not move out of the way for the blades to contact the tree, then it probably can not cut into or slice an 8 in tree.

The case drain would just connect back to the tank/reservoir. I am cautious of QD's on case drains.

Yes, on this one the front is pulled back with a push guard to expose he blades so they will cut before bending completely under the machine so you have to gover each area twice.

That's quite a mower. What type of mowing do you want to do? After having experiance with mine, I just am aware of some of the drawbacks, or limitations with this type of mower. Travel (mowing) speed being just as big a question as your limited hydraulics available on your tractor IMHO. FWIW I have modified my 8' rear 3pt. mower for the tractor so that I can lift it about 4' (some of that with a hyd top link) and it is hard to beat a driveshaft to get your HP to the mower, and favor this set up over the hyd. driven loader mount mower on my 115hp skid steer.

I am mowing dense undergrowth that is hard to get with the bush hog, I would rather have the mower infront so the trees don't damage the undercarriage of the tractor to much. Here's some pics of the growth.

Do tractors typically have a case drain plumbed in ? I'm very familiar with construction equipment and we use QD's all the time with the only problems being when guys don't connect them

No, tractors don't normally see case drain hoses.

They could be teed in with return lines if there is no back pressure.
