Was I suppose to replace transmission fluid and front axle case oil in my B2620 at 50 hours? The owner's manual for the B2620 does not indicate they need replacing at 50 hours (not until 400 hours), but the Workshop Manual says they do (see page G-13). Which is it?

My Kubota dealer does the 50 hour service for free, but I know they did not replace these fluids. They did replace the transmission and hydraulic oil filters (and did again 3.5 years later when I finally got to 100 hours), but the invoice only shows 2 qts of UDT, which I assume is to replace what was lost while changing the filters. And yes, they used UDT, not SUDT. I believe they said they don't even sell SUDT because they don't believe it is any better...but I don't want this to turn into a UDT vs SUDT thread.

My 2620 manual says the front fluid should be replaced at 400 hours. I would stick with the super fluid where specified.

Several years ago the fluids were changed at earlier hours but for the past 6 or 7 years at least the time for hyd fluids has changed. Just like on almost all machines using fluids which have changed in properties drastically in the last 50 years on an ongoing basis as have the metals and tolerances in most machines as well as electronics/monitoring, like it or not.
The owners manual comes with the machine at purchase thus it should/does apply to that machine manuf that year. The service manuals could have been printed 20 or 10 or 8 or 12 years ago giving information current on that date. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.:D As well as the letter from Kubota informing me that I need to change fluids per the owners manual and not the pool room/street corner/coffee shop/TBN advisors that don't know what they are talking about.

John, the person or persons from TBN do not know what they are talking
about. There has not been a Service Bulletin or even a notice sent to the
dealers that this is a mistake in the Operators manual. Kubota Tractor
recommends for you to follow your Operators manuals for servicing of each
unit you have. The BX2660 and the BX25 do not have to have the transmission
fluid change until it reaches the 400 hour mark. For the F2680, it is the
200 hour mark. The transmission oil filters need to be replaced and the
suction strainers cleaned at or before the 50 hour mark for all three
units. Your selling dealer can also assist you if you have any questions in
regard to servicing your tractors. Thank you for purchasing and contacting
Kubota Tractor Corp..

I wonder if environmentalist thinking has increased the change interval?

"Environmentalist thinking" is an oxymoron. Just like when "global warming" didn't hold water it became "climate change". The cure in both cases was increased taxes. Spotted owl farts probably cause more pollution.

Why even have the tractor if it's not being used?

I can certainly sympathize with the 3 years and 100 hours. MY LSP7010 is 3 years old and has 100 hours more or less, but I wouldn't want to get rid of it as I do still need it occasionally. My most used tractor now for the last 18 months is my little Kubota B26 TLB and it does 90% or what I need done, but that 10% of heavy load work still needs to be done and for that I need my bigger tractor. My 72" rotary tiller, 7 foot bush hog, 8 foot disc, 3500# lift FEL with large bucket and the much more traction for dragging out fallen trees is just some of the things I need my 100 hour tractor for. One of the reasons for only having 100 hours is that it is so much faster to do the same amount of work that the hours don't increase drastically on it much of this is because I don't have to run it at PTO engine speed either so the hours don't built as fast on the engine vs actual hours of use.
If I was moving 1000 cu. yards of dirt and it took me 100 hours (just theoretical numbers not actual) with the B26, I could do it with the LS in 25 hours or less due to the much larger capacity and speed of movement so much less hours shown on the tach but much more work getting done. HOURS on the tach doesn't always equate to the amount of work accomplished.

Right, **** environmentalists... Always meddling in tractor manual affairs.

Really, you guys sound ridiculous. Anybody like hunting? Last I checked, that happened in the "environment". Also, re: global warming, sure is funny how many folks came around on that topic when ice fishing skipped a year, snowmobiles sat parked, and corn crops that were 4 weeks late from too much rain dried up in July.

No, not all environmental policies are a good idea. Then again, rivers aren't catching on fire anymore, at least in the US. And no, the "environmental thinking" is most likely not why you shouldn't change your fluid early.

Shop Manual was printed 11/2007. Purchase was 4 months after that. Also, the B2620 was released in 2007, so it's hard to believe the the Shop Manual was out of date at the time. However, I'll take Kubota's word for it. The shop manual was probably in error and was just using the service interval for previous B series models did require the the change out at 50 hours.

Not sure why you would say this. I average about 20 hours on the meter per year, which is about 60 hours of seat time (and none of this is mowing). Renting is not an option. It would cost more, I would get a less capable tractor, would have to get a large number of tasks done in a 24 hour period to keep costs down, and it a PITA to rent. I waited 8 years after buying my 2.5 acre property before buying the B2620. I occasionally rented before that, but most projects sat by the wayside while I lamented not having a tractor to take care of them. Once I bought the tractor, my only regret has been not doing it sooner.

Ok. I assume the yellow is service needed with the previous B series models, but not the current.
