"Environmentalist thinking" is an oxymoron. Just like when "global warming" didn't hold water it became "climate change". The cure in both cases was increased taxes. Spotted owl farts probably cause more pollution.

Yep, I throw my garbage in the back of my pickup and by the time I get to work it's all gone!
I'm saving $278 a year on collection fees.

On an unrelated note, the dang taxes keep going up and I see those goldbrickin' town employees out on the road to work, every day, wasting my money, wearin' their pinko orange so called safety gear and pretending to put stuff in bags. The government sucks! I wish I could just do whatever I want whenever I want to whoever I want, regardless of the consequences. That's what the framers meant by freedom.

Back on topic - As far as front axle lube, change it when your user's manual says to, as other, wiser people have already suggested.

Im not an environmentalist by any means, but disposing of oil, batteries and stuff properly is important. We dont want it to be like china over here! That place is getting gross.

The owners manual clearly states change all fluid and filters at 50 hours for the first time.....except the front diff. It is 200 hours.
I will be changing mine at 50 hours. Oil is cheap. Parts are not.

I also change my fluids yearly if the hours are not reached....also stated in my owners manual.

Right, **** environmentalists... Always meddling in tractor manual affairs.

Really, you guys sound ridiculous. Anybody like hunting? Last I checked, that happened in the "environment". Also, re: global warming, sure is funny how many folks came around on that topic when ice fishing skipped a year, snowmobiles sat parked, and corn crops that were 4 weeks late from too much rain dried up in July.

No, not all environmental policies are a good idea. Then again, rivers aren't catching on fire anymore, at least in the US. And no, the "environmental thinking" is most likely not why you shouldn't change your fluid early.
My comment about environmentalist thinking was supposed to be a joke!

looks like some great advice here. and excellent question from seapea given the manual discrepancy. i always err (just my opinion) to recommended fluid changes, maybe even more frequent...... can't go wrong w/advice in this thread.

all yes, glad to see the political/environmental opinions & colors shine through, even on a thread on lubricants. who knows, it may turn spiritual. wouldn't it be nice if everyone could from time to time filter out their own flawed thinking like those particulates circulating in our tractors. i'd be the first in line :)

I think the EPA is the reason for the longer oil change intervals. My B3200 is the same way, the change intervals in the owners manual are longer than those in the WSM. I change it based on the WSM, which was 50hr for the front diff. I'd rather service my tractor based on the engineers recommendations than the environmentalists.

But then there would be no color! :D

When I worked in the automotive industry extended service intervals were introduced to entice sales. The thinking was people/businesses would look at the total cost of ownership being lower. Do what the book says for warranty do what you want for peace of mind.
