Used cost?

Buying new is something I haven't even considered. It might actually make more sense. After 5 years or so resale would be much higher. Tractors tend to hold their value. I probably wouldn't pay much more new than I would buying used not to mention the advantage of the new tractor warranty.

Is there a "blue book" of tractor values? I'm wondering, If I'm willing to dish out $15,000 on a 30-40hp tractor/loader, would I outsmart myself by buying used?

Pricing of fairly new(3-5years old) used tractors wont be far off of new price for that size tractor unless it has been abused or broken. I would suggest that for your budget and need of a 30-40 HP tractor, you consider new unless you can find a real bargain between now and the time needed to buy. There is always the great buy of a lifetime, which for me is always after I have already bought, but folks do occasionally find the anxious to sell and hard up seller willing to sacrifice his sale just to get out of the debt. So in the meanwhile keep looking at Craigslist and other ads for a forced sale, but beware of scams where they will list for cheap, cheap but always ask for some money up front. Also beware of buying from an individual for really cheap as it may also be stolen. If it is legitimate, they will usually have a bill of sale where they bought it AND give you a BOS. A local dealer could check the serial numbers for you against any reported stolen tractors along with the local law enforcement folks.

Even comparing 10 year old tractors to new. when you figure the warranty, looks like new would make more sense.
I could easily pay 12 for a 10 year old 35 hp tractor. I understand I could pay 17 for a comparable new one with a warranty.
So for the additional 5000, I'd get a brand new fully warranted tractor. I think it's worth it!
what am I missing?

Machinery Pete compiles auction prices but that site requires a paid subscription. I don't know the extend to which CUTs are included in the database.

Its true that there are a few promotions going on for new tractors with zero down and zero or low interest. Tractors do hold their value (better than cars do). Some people who are selling a used tractor for 13-15 ) like myself) also have put several thousand in options on their tractors or are selling them with various attachments. If your willing to go 15K used then why not spend 20K new. Then you have to buy implements. Once the tractor bug bites then you need a mower deck, or a plow, back blade, rake, grapple, etc. the list goes on and on. Just ask anyone here. Everyone here will gladly help you spend your money.

I have been looking for a tractor about 50 HP,4 WD,Fel ect. Most I have found are in Pa.,your area.I would look at Marshall's. I am looking for a friend and trying to steer him to a Tier 3 tractor. You have several large dealers in Pa.and there is always Barstow's in Kentucky.

I'm just looking for the loader attachment with the tractor. That will serve my needs. I have a bushhog and york rake for it. I will need to install my western 8"6" plow to it. That will be another topic when I get the tractor.
What I'm trying to get straight in my head right now is what will be the price difference in buying a new vs. used 30-40 hp tractor.

I went threw the same issues and couldnt find the right deal used, Seemed all had 1000 hrs and up and they were still 15-18 k. Also unless you have cash its goning to be hard to finance a used tractor. I found a "new old stock unit" at a substantial discount with 0% for 60 months brand new, .9 hrs warranty and more tractor than I was looking at.

Several manuf build to your price/hp point.... I recommend going with a Kubota or a JD
