RAM 3500 Question

   / RAM 3500 Question #11
Maybe the factory controller crapped out and they put in that Reese ?

   / RAM 3500 Question #12
Seems kind of high to me.
I've looked at a few cars at that dealership and their prices run a little on the high side...

I thought the same thing about the controller. I asked the guy at the dealer, but he was puzzled by it as well. Is the factory one the time delay type and the other a progressive???
Per Brake Controllers - Reese the Brakeman line of controllers are all timed.
The factory ones generally tie in with the truck brakes and are proportional to how hard you are pressing on the brakes. They also (in some cases) pulse when ABS kicks in on the truck.

The Dodge factory controllers will not do disc brake systems, only drums. Perhaps he was running a trailer with disc brakes?

I would not touch it. The motor has life but that truck is about done and will nickel and dime you to death.

Chris

Agreed.

It always cracks me up when I read an ad about a high miles diesel and the seller always puts in there "thats nothing for a diesel, its just getting broke in" Well...it sure is but the rest of the truck is just about broke. Thats alot of miles on the rest of the drivetrain, trans, axles, etc.

I bough my 05 a few years ago under 70k miles for under 25k. And personally, if I was looking, I'd either go old enough to get the 5.9L or new enough to ditch the DPF crap.

   / RAM 3500 Question #16
Well you can't go new enough to ditch the DPF crap, they all come with it. A person just has to look at the truck and decide. It may be about wore out or it may look brand new. Someone put a lot of miles on it in a short time, that may or may not be a bad thing.

I thought I read somewhere they did away with it on the new stuff. Maybe I am thinking of something else??? I guess I dont stay very current on diesel stuff...

   / RAM 3500 Question #18
With the newer trucks, they still have DPF, but with the DEF (diesel exhaust fluid), the DPF has to go through less regens.

   / RAM 3500 Question #19
Seems kind of high to me.

The drive train probably wouldn't bother me at that mileage but its likely that everything else is ready to start falling off the truck.

deffinately seems high for that milage.. even though it is a 10...

   / RAM 3500 Question #20
my 99 f350 has a bit less than that. and yeah.. she's showing plenty of wear even though she has life left.

a 10 with that many miles must have been hauling over the road straight!

like 60k per year.. that's 5k per month!!!

Agreed.
