I just bought one of these today. I have used the one at my last job at a truck shop for years. It is self priming, not nearly as affected as gravity and stays primed all the way to the bottom of the fuel tank.

The way it works is this copper ball- check valve at the end. By jiggling the ball at the end you can prime the hose and that's it! Bought mine today at a truck stop, TA truck stop. Can be had at harbor freight but comes with a quarter inch hose. Amazon dot com is a great place to get them. I got mine for 12$, 6 foot of hose, copper check valve end, and 1/2 inch or 5/8 hose. Works fantastic !!

I'll say it works fantastic! I'm going to get another one strictly for gas.

Have you had one before or just bought one? They work so well for what they are .

I had one of those for years and thought that the check valve was only to make getting the siphon going easier, or to keep the siphon, so I would still suck on it . . . .yuck!

Then I was at a show and saw it demonstrated with the up/down motion. Did I feel STUPID!

I have two now. The cheaper one has a crappier quality hose that tends to kink and stay kinked.

We have all done those kind of things!! That's the only way I was taught to siphon fuel.

It really takes very little work to get them started. The use at my last job was removing fuel out of the tank of a semi to use the fuel other places such as for new fuel filters and to put fuel into our diesel forklift.

I bought one three weeks ago to try and I like it so much that I am going to get one for gas, too. The one for the gas will stay in the shed with the generator and spare fuel for same.
The first one is for diesel and stays with the tractor in its' shed with the extra fuel for the tractor.

Well, at least the foot valve is removable. You can replace the hose w/ something different.

Looking at a similar one on Amazon, the reviews say it may not work on "modern" cars w/ a anti-siphon system (aka spring thing in the fill neck).

It wont work on my big truck either. It has anti-siphon screens in it.
New Volvos in some or most cases do not have the screens to keep from siphoning (anti siphon) all new freight liners do. Pre 2008 we seemed to be okay with any truck from my experience. We could siphon from spotter trucks as well. The flow of fuel was controllable to fill fuel filters to the brim as well on the spot!

The check valve part needs to be in the tank you are removing fuel from!! Other wise it will not work. They will not work for any car Fuel tank unless you remove the filler neck

All I've ever used to refuel the tractor from 5-6 Gal. diesel cans....I add Seafoam when the fill can is about 1/3 down...
