Sorry Budweiser John, he was made a steer soon after birth(banding). I'm not in the bull raising business. His sires genetics are unknown. He might make the Certified Angus list but he does have grey hide. Other than a Blackleg vacine he will be antibiotic and hormone free when he is sold. Grass fed, mommas milk, and a little creep feed starting about the 4th of July.

Why do they birth in storms? Just check the barometer.
Down here in hurricane areas pregnant women who are close to their due date are told to go to the hospital because the low pressure can induce the birth.

Now that's interesting.

Nice looking calf and interesting markings. I had a black Angus X cow with a perfect check mark on her nose for the last 12 years, we called her "Check". Unfortunately she is no longer with us. I'll try to dig up a picture of her.

My latest bunch of heifers started calving on New Years Eve. Just had number 45 today. Man I'm tired.

Nice calf. Not to high jack the thread but who do you use for a slaughterhouse. I am looking for a new one close by.

Well not too bad. I prefer freezing cold to the mud we're having now, it's much harder on them.

Stimw, I will have to graciously disagree. I keep pretty detailed records on my herd as well as having the notebooks that Dad and Grandad had. I've not found any correlation between weather conditions and parturition(birthing). It's a "fruit won't fall till its ripe" sort of thing. I think they pregnant women to go to the hospital ahead of a storm is the roads may be closed or impassible during or after a storm. There is a relationship between lunar(moon) phases and animal behavior my notes don't show a connection between particular lunar phase and calving. HOWEVER, because lunar phases, more correctly zodiac signs or "sign of the moon" as it relates to animals body can be used to acheive a particular behavior. Long story even longer. If I have a bunch of pigs or calves that I plan to castrate, dehorn, dock tails, wean etc the best behavior for them after the procedure would be to lay around, relax and recover. I would choose a time frame(zodiac sign) moving from the hips to the knees into the feet. As opposed to a time frame in the bowels or intestine (causes diarrihea) or in the head which causes them to bawl or squeal hour after hour.
