I think the lights and battery were fitted in a way so they could easily be removed and the car sent back to the dealership. What I find funny is that they left the spare in the car. Exactly what were they going to do with that? Pull over on the side of the track and change a flat while 43 race cars are idling waiting?

I've owned three P-71 (Police package) Crown Vic's. Never seen extra batteries in the trunk area of them either. Don't know why the Pace cars run this set up. It was mentioned in this article.NASCAR pace car catches on fire - SBNation.com Obviously by the pic, the trunk space is taken up by non factory equipment.

Same here- owned one Crown Vic (Police Intercepter) and still have a Caprice 9C1 neither had any battery additions to the trunk...

Anyone remember a few years back when the pace care for one of the races was a Toyota Camry and it died on the track and they couldn't get it to restart and had to tow it off? That was truly a vehicle problem and not some auxiliary component that malfunctioned.

I was held up on my way home from work Friday for this ford truck that caught on fire.

Wow, friends don't let friend's drive Fords LOL. Looks like 422 near New Castle.

Maybe they can. Arket it to the football tailgating group....no need to lug your grill with you. GM has the hot trunk option.

These days the LED light bars draw so little current that you could almost run them off a flashlight battery. Strobe lights - I don't know. I don't doubt the "auxiliary" pack in the trunk but I suspect it's more of a computerized control of the systems.

I see two possible causes.
1. They used the same lithium batteries that Boeing uses in their new planes.
2. They were doing the tailgate thing with the grill in the trunk and when the caution came out they just slammed it shut and jumped onto the track. :confused2:
