JD 3038E vs Kubota L3200

   / JD 3038E vs Kubota L3200 #71
Just purchased the Kubota L3200. Drove the Deere, the Yanmar, the LS, and the Mahindra. I have been searching since October last year. Was going to go used but it is apparent these hold value so I said screw it and went new. I have a buddy that sells JD and gave me a huge discount to stop me when I was backing my truck to the Kubota. This is not a joke. I also had another good friend in the same circle calling me telling me to call the JD sales guy back and go Green. I went orange with no regrets. I spent a whole day dealer hoping and driving. Kubota was last...I didn't drive it for more than 5 minutes and it was game-set-match. These comparisons and threads comparing these two tractors kind of makes me laugh. You have JD guys who are hard core JD. Buy Green or you suck type guys. Want a real tractor buy Green. Thing is you have to get to what...45hp or more before you even get a real true Green tractor? This JD series is like my dads JD Garden tractor with a few more bells and whistles.

It's simple...more fuel, more range selection (HST), faster fwd and rev, easier to maintenance, more weight, more power, more lift, more implements, no special Kubota only attachments, better built, all metal, better paint, better lines, did I mention all metal, more standard features, easier to drive, larger, true Kubota engine, did I mention all metal? Do you see a trend here? Go color blind for a day as I did. I have no ties to any one brand I do not care it was my first tractor purchase. Move the color blinder goggles off, don't talk to any friends, drive everyone your butt can stand in a day or two...then get what you want. But even Mahindra who boast best in the world with signs showing it holding a Green and Orange from a bucket....drove and felt like a Tractor...not a work of art that works.

The Kubota was the clear choice...I paid $1k more for something that felt less like an old field Massy and more like a machine built to last...which I feel it is. Again...I had no allegiance to any color. I have been using an old Massey 45hp 2wd beast that is older than I am and tough as nails. 5+ hours in that seat and you were ready to tap out. Just my 2 cent. I hope this helps from a newbie.

I too made a detailed comparison, orange, red and green. I compared all the statistics and went further. I spoke to owners of all three makes, owners who, in this agricultural area, used their machines hard. After all that analysis and from time spent sitting in seats of all three, I went green. The defensive tone by our friend from Florida would seem to indicate he is working hard to rationalize a choice he is perhaps not sure about.

The simple fact is that tractor owners have different needs, preferences, comfort-levels, and experience levels. That's why there are so many tractor manufacturers, and why each has so many different units. If my situation, body and experience were different, I too may have gone with a different color tractor. But I am quite confident I made the absolutely correct choice for me. Hopefully all of us discover our choices were good - for us.

@ DKCDKC

Lets clear the air here and now. A - I am not some old dude who trolls the net looking for conflict on a forum. This will be my last post on this comparison thread. B - I am not being defensive at all in my original post. In this post I am now defending my self and my original post because you chose to read what you wanted to. And now you are trolling. If you read I stated the debate is old and tired. Your comparing Apples to Oranges....Steak to Chicken. Both are suited for individuals who find them the right fit. My post stated take off the FREAKING color goggles and drive all of them and find what you like. If you read the other post people compared the cost of the two. Yes I paid more for my Kubota...I know I did. My friend is still upset I am sure because I did not buy a tractor from him. I test drove, test drove, and drove some more.

Here is the funny thing...out of all my friends and family and people I know...guess who had the strongest voice and who just harassed the crap out of me. The JD owners, bias as the day is long....and as you stated you talked to people before you bought. JD is a cult following from what I can tell now that I have read on this forum, almost like HD or Ford guys. Heck you probably drive a Ford also. Guess what I have a Nissan...shocking right? All my buddies have Fords...guess I should have bought a Ford also. :( Massy guys congratulated me, Mahindra guy said nice buy I like it, JD guys...and this is the truth...found things wrong with it. No shield over the fuel filter bowl and no cover over the lower hydraulic lines for the bucket. Instead of beating me up over my purchase should have been congrats like the rest of my friends. So...enjoy your 3038E, enjoy the plastic parts, enjoy the Yanmar motor, enjoy the smaller tank, enjoy the 400+lbs of needed weight to push and pull that you do not have, enjoy only 2 speeds on your HST, enjoy your over priced and hard to find parts. Seriously I really hope you do...as you stated I bought mine, as you did yours.

Now after that rant...re-read my original post. It just states that these two tractors cannot be compared...the only thing they have in common are the price range and HP range. Other than that it is a true Kubota vs. parted out JD production...not even a real JD. Again apples to oranges....move up to a bigger size Kubota and JD to compare.

Happy Wednesday!

You guy's are both wrong, should have bought a LS or Kioti and saved a lot of Dough.:D. I don't like 2 speed ranges either.

I think that's a fair assumption and one I made also.

Go Green

Nah, the guy is just happy about his new tractor! Give him a break. It's his money anyhow. We might not all agree with him on his personal observations and opinions of the tractors, or the value of his dollar spent... but it's his money after all. I would also presume, that like a lot of posters here, present company included, that his chosen brand patriotism will diminish over time, to a more subdued level.

Enjoy your new toy!

Go Green

Why would you guys think that? He simply bought a tractor that is more capable than your green machines....facts are facts. Sure, he paid a little more for it, but it's more machine, and anybody arguing that is just silly.

You're happy with yours, he's happy with his....everybody wins, right?

Go Green?

Just last month you posted the quote below....and you previously said this is your first tractor.

"kubota's and John Deere's are nice tractors, but a bit pricey for my taste. Mahindra's are relatively expensive too. Being in Canada I have no idea what is available to you but if you can check out Kioti, LS and TYM. I can buy a LS G3038H for $16,900 and a TYM 353 for $16,999, both hydrostat. The closest thing in the Kubota line is the 3200 or 3300 which is $18,300. The John Deere is well, lets just say higher than that. I would love to buy the Kubota because I have a dealer very close to me but I just cant justify the extra $$$$. Same with the Deere."

Wholly crap, is this all you have to do with your time is look up old posts of mine. The Deere was higher when I first started looking until I found a deal on one. What the **** is your point?

I know I said I would not post again but you guys are cracking me up. Well the JD guys anyway. Is there a secret society meeting you guys attend annually to learn how to defend your over sized lawn mowers? Throw a Yanmar in my dads 42" cut JD and add a bucket...about the same capabilities. (that should get you JD guys going)
@TSO I stated no opinion in my first post...all facts. You can compare the two for yourself. It's all truth.
@Lazy - That truck - Tyson is the best I have read yet! Love it man...I will get a pick Friday when I am back in town and it is all on trailer again.
@GManBart - Great info and very funny that kcflhrc would take such a stance from then to now....he attend that annual meeting.
@ murphy no Koti dealers near by so have no idea what they are or do or how much. Would have went for LS second choice but they had no special financing offers like JD, Kubota, and Mahindra do right now.
@kcflhrc - funny another JD guy taking it negative. Only the JD guys would...or have. If I buy another tractor later in life...maybe bigger....I will drive all again, look at options and buy. Don't think for a second I will run straight to the Orange shop again. Brand loyalty will only get you into trouble. Buy what fits...all you JD guys worry about an extra $1k on price. Again apples to oranges...if you cannot afford another $1k for a better tractor then maybe you shouldn't be looking at tractors in the first place.
Guys my tractor was a package deal...$21k for a trailer, bush hog, disc, and bucket. I am pleased with the whole thing...again...buy what you need...not by color or by comparing one invoice to another. Do you buy one tire because it's on sale and let your family drive down the road? No you buy a good tire with traction and speed rating and high mileage to keep your family safe. See what I just did there! :) LOL
Now everybody be nice...use your own tractor...check the fluids each use...and remember...always be aware of what is around you before you back up!

The point? You've been on here two months and just bought your first tractor, but you're going to poke fun of someone else, saying they made the wrong choice and are just trying to rationalize things....yet only a few weeks ago you said how you wished you could buy the same tractor he bought. You don't see the irony there?

He's happy with his tractor, you're happy with your tractor.....everybody should be happy, right? Why give the guy a hard time?

He spent a little more than you did, and got more capability in all but one category....doesn't sound so crazy to me.

For the extra money he spent, he got 300+lbs more weight, 85lbs more 3pt lift capacity, 1.2gpm more hydraulic pump flow, 10" more FEL max height at just a few pounds less (so his FEL is stronger, and goes higher), and he got a 3-range HST which makes a big difference in actually using the tractor, rather than driving it around the dealer's lot. The only thing he got less of was PTO power, and it's not likely enough to make a difference in what implements he can run effectively.

BTW, it took all of about a minute to find your earlier post...the search function allows you to pick any poster, and pull up any term you want. It really added a bright spot to having lunch at my desk
