Anyone else notice a rash on new posters with one line comments?

Not only post counts, but members. "This forum has 3,657,620 posts, 226,494 Members and there are currently 821 members and 9331 guests"
Once a member, always a member. I went to the Members page and sorted by post count, 146,574 members have zero posts and a lot of them didn't fill in their Profile.
The first time you visit TBN, the popup makes it seem like you have to join to read anything on the site. But I guess that is okay, I have welcomed members on their first post, then notice they have been a member for several years! :ashamed:
If you aren't a member, you cant see the pictures hosted on TBN. That is probbaly why many join.

I actually like having no post count showing.. And I absolutely hate 'kudo's' 'thanks', 'likes', etc..

this makes it 2 lines..
Why would someone saying "Thanks" cheese you off?

Seriously though.. Some are simply new posters getting their feet wet..

Others, like the ones linked to, really seem to be 'testing the waters before I spam the crap outta the forums' accounts. They manually set up accounts (instead of detectable bots), post a few to get the counts up and look legit, then let them 'stew' for a few weeks to years when they suddenly come back and start spamming, using a bot of course...

Other times, its someone looking to scam out emails and contact info..
There have been very few automated attacks on this site in the 13 years I've been here. I think I can count on one hand the number of times that has happened.

Also, when I joined you didn't have to join to view, you just couldn't post. And the popup encouraging you to login/join wasn't up.

I agree that some join just to view or post on a thread and then are gone. I've done that on 4x4 websites. Guess I'm an evil troll or "spam" person.....

passing thoughts...(like gas)

FWIW..a large number of visiting "guests" are search engine bots...

It would be nice to have a (maybe anonymous) way of acknowledging that a particular post was helpful...that does not require an actual reply...

pet cheese...er I mean peeve...: when someone posts asking for a professional's advice/opinion on a particular issue/item and all the wayward, tangent (and amateur) replies that it garners that have to be waded through to find the pros responses...

I noticed that once Waldon's articulating tractor was in the newsletter, that thread took off with a huge run-on of new members posting "great job" type posts. For many it was their first post. I saw it on I think the first page, it went to about 3 pages and kinda died out for a few days. Then I got an email pointing it out and all of sudden about 4 pages were added in a day of mostly new members.

What newsletter?

Yea what newsletter??

I'll make make it three. What newsletter?

well I deleted it, but found it in my deleted items. Still have some of it, some was lost. You guys don't get an email newsletter that announces things like member of the month and stuff like that?

January, 2014 Compact & Utility Tractor Newsletter

I never heard of a newsletter.

Yes we get them in an e-mail.
I don't get it either, so I did the search thingy. Here is the link for the newsletter: Link gave this " Error - The link you clicked is invalid."

Standby, doing more research.
