Anyone else notice a rash on new posters with one line comments?

On one site I frequent, one member used to post some great pics, along with tales of his lifestyle, according to his posts, he did all the right things, did good, was was doing good. Some other forum folks were jealous of him, and started to heckle him a bit. I happened to believe most of his posts, until one day I found a profile on another forum that had some planter pics that he had claimed were his. Only the other forum pics were months older, and a few states away. Anyway, he announced that he had cancer. Then his treatment, then a "family" member logged on to report his death. He had talked about his job as a maintence manager at a country club. One member reported calling the place and asking for him, turned out he was there...

Btw, the dude built a mean Tiki bar....

And I think he has come back, less some baggage, under another name on the same forum.....

Had that happen once.. Good guy we all loved 'died' and his 'wife' started posting here and there.. Turned out to be him.

Heyyyyyyy!!!! Maybe we are on to something here!!!! It's a conspiracy of the moderators and owners of the website running up post counts to entice bigger dollars from sponsors!!!!! Yeah, that's the ticket!!!! :D

I learned to type on a manual typerwriter in typing class in high school. I was taught the right way. I still use that method. Each digit has a specific purpose. Comes easy to me.

Gotta be easier to 'push' on the keys now though.. :)

I learned in typing class too. These computer key pads are a little bit tighter together though.

Seriously though.. Some are simply new posters getting their feet wet..

Others, like the ones linked to, really seem to be 'testing the waters before I spam the crap outta the forums' accounts. They manually set up accounts (instead of detectable bots), post a few to get the counts up and look legit, then let them 'stew' for a few weeks to years when they suddenly come back and start spamming, using a bot of course...

Other times, its someone looking to scam out emails and contact info..

What is worse? Someone commenting about someones nice work, or agreeing with a good idea in a one liner. OR a bunch of site offtopic useless threads that do nothing more than take up bandwidth. From what I've witnessed here and other forums. There is more discussion about spam than the spam itself. The moderators do a fantastic job keeping the lanes of traffic open but the conversation about possible traffic jams continue as if the mayor it fixing to close the bridge. :twocents:

Not only post counts, but members. "This forum has 3,657,620 posts, 226,494 Members and there are currently 821 members and 9331 guests"

Once a member, always a member. I went to the Members page and sorted by post count, 146,574 members have zero posts and a lot of them didn't fill in their Profile.

The first time you visit TBN, the popup makes it seem like you have to join to read anything on the site. But I guess that is okay, I have welcomed members on their first post, then notice they have been a member for several years! :ashamed:

I wonder how many members there really are, if you used a criterion like "posted within the last year"?
