JD 3038E vs Kubota L3200

Perhaps he meant to say "in a comparison"? The most fun and excitement happens when the thread gets "sidewinded". I think its the same feeling when the girls go shopping because they need a new blouse and come home with shoes, a dress or two, a new vacuum and a christmas tree because "everything was on sale".

Yep, and the guys go to the Harley shop for an oil filter and oil and come home with a new bike. It's all good, as long as your bank account cant handle it.

I have owned a JD for about 12 years and have mixed feelings about it. The drivetrain has been flawless. The hydraulics been great. But the plastic hood and side panels have all cracked and broken. Within three weeks of ownership a limb was popped up by the back wheel and hit the very exposed hydraulic fluid filter and broke the mounting. Even though it was brand new JD would not cover it. Needless to say I never went back to that dealer. It is a flaw in their design to hang a filter within inces front of a tire. After it was three years old the tie rod just bent. No I did not hit anything. One front wheel was in a ditch and when I turned to get out of the ditch it bent slightly. After the third time of it bending and straightening I welded a steel pipe over the tie rod and it has worked fine since. At about four years old the pins that hold the bottom of the FEL on broke off and I had to weld them back on. The JD FEL bucket has always been weak so I reinforced the top, the sides, the bottom, and the blade. But finally last year it just came apart so I purchased an aftermarket bucket for about 1/3 the price of a JD and fabricated brackets to fit. The new bucket is much better. I have a backhoe attached to the JD with a frame that fits under the tractor all the way to the rear engine mount. The JD has problem handling the backhoe attachment. Even though the JD is always parked under cover, the seat has started cracking. If I were to purchase a tractor today I would more than likely purchase a Kioti.

I know the comparisons get done to death, so please bear with me. Upon pricing, I have been shocked to find the JDs are less expensive. With that said, I can buy a JD 3038E for $1300 LESS than a Kubota L3200. I have seen the comparisons between 3032 and L3200, and 3038 and L3800, but in this case I am comparing different animals. I own 23 acres, but only 5 are cleared, mostly flat, and 3 will be cut with a rotary cutter. I will use a box scrape to tend a 200' drive, and one day a rotary tiller for gardening and deer plots. I'll use the loader for a variety of things, including moving mulch, gravel, etc. Most comparisons show the Kubota to be the better-built tractor. Bottom line is this: Would you pay more for the Kubota to get less horsepower?

Comparison stuff that matter to me (some merely my opinion):
JD has higher HP
JD has better HST pedal setup
JD has steering rods behind the axle (protected)
JD has better warranty (3 yrs vs. 2)
JD is $1300 cheaper (JD $18,500 vs Kubota $19,800) Big surprise for me!
Kubota has better hood design for easier maintenance
Kubota has quick disconnect loader
Kubota has concealed hydraulic lines to bucket (protected)
Kubota has 3 speed ranges instead of 2
Kubota has bigger fuel tank
Kubota has a drawbar standard
Kubota has cast iron rear end
Kubota is 450 lbs heavier

Which has the best resale is questionable to me. Dealers are both about 45 minutes away, and both seem very easy to work with. Neither are totally American made. Financing is same, except JD offers $1000 back if 2 implements bought, which if used (and I will), makes the JD $2300 cheaper. Your thoughts?

@ DFisher...it is pretty easy to see I was trying to say compare not compress. My bad for letting autocorrect do it's thing. As for being new I am new. But I did not start this thread so my apologies for chiming in here. As it stands again...I like when they turn side ways. Give us something to talk about. If we stay on topic everyone throws in there 2 cent which 9 times out of ten is from experience. Most of us here have had a couple brands. A few have had them all. But for me to say LS sucks or Koti this is wrong...blah this or blah that. Simple logic I came to the table with was I drove quote a few units, never owned a thing, pissed off a friend who sells JD, and I went Orange. Felt like what I wanted...paid a bit more for it and that is that. My issues were in comparing (compression) the two I didn't see it as fair. One Tractor has a bit more to Offer than the other. Does not make it better...just like comparing a VW Jetta to an Audi A4...same car to say but one has a bit more and price is higher. That was my point...not fair to compare...or compress.

Here is off the topic...Cant wait to hit the camp this weekend and turn up the food plots. Time for Spring planting. WAIT....does this make me a farmer if I am planting for Deer? I mean I am planting, and I am harvesting the deer...do I qualify? LMAO

For the record for my next 1k post...PLEASE excuse any typos...I hardly ever re-read, I spell like crap, and I type 90 to nothing!

I knew exactly what you meant by "compression." I certainly have been caught by the auto-correct monster. No need for apologies there. What I did not understand is how the two tractors were not comparable. Different in many ways, yes, but certainly comparable, at least in my opinion.

Speaking of that Massey, how you getting along with it so far?

Thanx for asking ... So far so good. Still waiting to test out the loader ... have to wait till it warms up for that. Looking forward to using the stump grinder too ... that'll be my first use of the PTO on the Massey I think. Seems like a good tractor tho ... time will tell.

We just paid 19,200 for a 3200 hst with front end loader and a 5 foot land pride rotary cutter. Plus delivered for free 50 miles with a full tank of fuel. Sounds like you need some practice negotiating

For example the 3 range hydrostat. I truly don't see the need. Don't see the need for the extra weight either

No offense, but you don't have the experience to have those comments mean much after owning a tractor for a few weeks. Run a similar machine with a 3 range hydro for a while, and you'd very likely see the need, or at least the significant advantage to them. When I say run one, I mean spend a day doing work with one...it will be obvious at that point. The extra weight may, or may not become a factor, but it's unusual for anybody to try making their tractors lighter over time....it's almost always heaver.
