JD 3038E vs Kubota L3200

I agree on 3 ranges for HST. My Kioti had 2, but I've had 3 range on my tractors since then. I am in M range 90% of the time, and I would say I use my tractors for as varied amount of work as most anybody on here. Not saying my experience trumps everyone else's, but I'm up to roughly 425 hrs in 2 years, doing lots of different stuff.

I wouldn't want to go back to 2-range again.

Well this weekend Low was needed to move those big freaking Trees. Medium was needed to push all the piles of limbs. And high was needed to go 1 block to move dirt in medium. Oh and I like low to load it on the trailer LOL!
3 speeds will be a big help to me in the woods...speaking of...no one answered me...does planting food crops for deer, then harvesting deer count or make me a farmer?
This has to be the best debate on this group.
To settle it...lets get the 3038E and the L3200 and have a stand off. Push one another, pull one another, so on and so forth. Oh and we have to see who has to refuel first and such. Anyone game...not me I'm not ready to scratch my paint yet! LMAO...I still have stickers on my tires. I love this place...all I need is a beer and a day without rain.

Here is for ALL of you tractor guys...you will appreciate this. BTW not my choice of drink but you will get the point. Here's to Earning It - 60 seconds - YouTube

So are you a "bambi" farmer?:D

Well they are free range deer so LOL!

The JD3038E...can you or can you not get a backhoe for it? Also on the JD is the FEL capable of being removed or is it fixed?

No BH and the FEL is fixed. So I'm told

That is the way I understand it too, but the bucket can come off of the loader, with the proprietary JD quick hitch. I think the aluminum rear end, does not lend itself to a BH subframe very well.

I looked at a 3038 when I was shopping. Was not impressed at all and way to expensive. Had a l3800 for 4 days also.

I studied the same for months, JD vs. Kubota. I bought the L3800, its bigger, heavier, front loader comes off, and I could add a backhoe (I did). I really wanted the JD but to get the same capability you had to move up to the 3000/20 series, then the price is mid $20's. One plus for the JD was service, my local JD guy would come out to service it while I have to trailer my tractor to the Kubota dealer for service.

I am going to briefly hijack my own hijacked thread, if that's okay.

Purchased the JD 3038E Saturday morning. $1900 less than the L3200 was too much to overcome, along with some very aggressive pricing on a Frontier cutter and Woods box blade.

Will be delivered Saturday. Can't wait to get it muddy!

Just read through this thread to see how you made out. Congratulations on your new tractor. I bought mine a year ago and it's one of the best things I've ever spent my hard-earned money on. I like everything about it.

I'm always amazed at how things can escalate on this site. People get passionate about their brands and their colors. I spent hours sitting on every make that showed up at the New York State Empire Farm Days show and I found it hard to be overly critical about any of them. We all choose what we want for different reasons.

Good luck.

Well, since I own a Deere and a Kubota, maybe I can say this without brand bias -- I'd take 3-range HST over 2-range any day, and I don't think any reasonable person would turn down a 3-range if they could get one. On my L3200, I tend to run around in medium most of the time. But high is a must when I travel down the road for materials or to drop off a log at my neighbor's sawmill. And low is awesome for grading with a full box blade, nosing into piles of material to fill the front bucket, and any kind of pulling.

In that case, welcome to the club. We call it "scratching in the dirt for a living". Sure beats the heck out of florescent lights in a cubicle, though.
